Sure didn't take many shots to remember why I don't like the Dragoon gripframe on the Super Blackhawk. Not a problem with the Super Blackhawk Hunter. Brownells had one SS Hunter Gripframe left in stock. It has begun its journey to Southwest Louisiana.

Had what I think was a Super Blackhawk 44 mag, 8 3/8" barrel (when 17 yrs old) that used to take the skin off my trigger finger within a few shots. Then it would rip the bandaid off a few shots later. I sold it for $125 and made a $50 profit. Boy, if I ever knew at that age that I could have just replaced the grips....

Model 29 tore the cartilage in the middle knuckle of my middle finger, has never been right since. Ask me why I don't shoot Smith & Wesson revolvers chambered in anything that starts higher than "point three" anymore. The Rugers are fine if you make a set of stocks that fit you. For me, that involved adding 3/8" to the bottom of the grip frame so I could get all my fingers on there.

Square back trigger guard only gives me problems on the 44. I can shoot the Maximum all day long. The Hunter has the round trigger guard and doesn't smack my knuckle.

The first 44 mag I fired was a flat top Ruger 6.5", XR3 grip frame. I Never fired full loads I that gun again. Later I switched it to the XR3RED and it was OK. Still sold the gun (groan, it was #3400 in like new condition) back in the 70's. The OM Ruger that ripped me up was the 41 mag, busted the web of my thumb wide open on the first shot...it went down the road quickly. Best 44 mag full load gun for me is the Redhawk even with the factory grips...I still have it from back in the 80's. I have the square back Super also but do not shoot full loads in it because of the "smack".

My early Super Blackhawk, is no problem with heavy 44 spec loads, and low end
starting load 44 Mags. However with full power 44Mags, you really have to hold
tight and con centrate on the grip to not bust your knuckle. Usually only shoot
about 10 rounds of the full power stuff.
