I know this is a bullet Ben likes. I had borrowed the mould from Khornet a few years ago and cast up a bunch. These are coated with Hi-Tek coating. I had them ready to load and want to see how the revolver does with them.

Load is 4 gr of Promo in 38 special brass.

I picked up a 6 cavity for this bullet a while back......... new and cheap!
I'll follow this thread with interest as I haven't cast with it as of yet.

My only fear is that I don't remember if I sized these after coating. If not then they may scrap coating on firing and leading could occur. Hmmmmm

We shall find out this evening. Local indoor range has Friday Night Date Nite. Two shooters for cost of one.

By and large that is the ONLY bullet I use for .38 Spl. anymore. Reason being every single one of my .38 revolvers from K-38, model 10, model 36, and so on all shoot 4-6" high at 15 yards with 150-160-grain bullets. The Lee 125 RNFP solved that problem completely and is a joy to cast, load and shoot. I PC all of them, BTW. 4 grains of Promo sounds like perfection, and with range scrap alloy free for the picking, you can load a 5-gallon bucket full for essentially the cost of primers.

That is what I am looking for Ian. I have 6 buckets of range scrap that needs to be smelted and the resulting 12-1300 pounds of ingots will make a bunch of bullets!
I have 6 pounds of Promo and a full 8 of Red Dot so powder isn't an issue.
I hope the Hi-Tek works well as it does eliminate the smoke and much of the grunge from shooting cast.

I have shot a few of these before but only in 9mm, never in 38/357. Don't know why?

Oh man, Brad. Save that precious wadcutter brass for what it was designed for.

That would mean segregating my brass. I don't shoot wadcutters much at all and none are hollowbase.
For me I view it as just brass?

This is all I shot in the 38 spl. S&W 15. Put them over 4 gr. of green dot with sp primers. I do put as aluminum gc on them and lube with tumble lube. They shoot great. I am the the weak like in the combo. Gun and bullets do there job. Me not so much.:(

Plain base check made from a pop can?

If these shoot I will likely get 2 of the 6 cav moulds. No point in wearing one out in 10 years then find they don’t make it any more. Like they did with the 158 swc.

I think Tom has one on file. NOE or Arsenal probably has one as well. But I agree, get a pair of Lees and be set for life, I've heard 20-30,000 bullets is the life expectancy of Lee commercial moulds from several pro casters. The way I treat them, it's looking like more than that, but haven't cast more than about 12K from any single one yet.

I use that mould for my 9mm. Working on a bunch now with 4 grs BE. Switching all my .38's to the NOE 160-WFN-DP. Still have a couple thousand loaded with this 125 now, just wanted a larger meplat and dimple point bullet for my .38's.

I use a flatter nose similar shaped bullet from a magma mold, on top of 4grs of 231.
it's my annoying squirrel/running grouse load in the Dan Wesson.
in her later years it was the only load the MIL could handle anymore.

Yes it is made from a beer can or pop can. The mold is a Lee 358-125-RF. They shoot great. It is a 2 cavity.

A 2 cav? How do you keep up? Do you ever get enough cast for a full box of 100?
Damn man, get with it and go 6 cav or go home!:headbang:

I do have to ask, is the gas check needed? Have you tried with out it?

I am retired and I like to do it. So I don't mind sitting there for a while. And being retired, I am home all the time. :sigh: And I did try them with out the gc. They shot fine and I really didn't get abnormal leading. But my revolver isn't like yours, so your mileage may vary. I'm sure you will like them.

Filling the day, makes sense to me.
I often discuss that with Paul. He is retired, I am not. He will trade time for money as he has lots of time. I will trade money for time as I have little free time.

Makes sense to me and it makes you happy. No arguements here.
