Lee sizer question

Just how far can you open up a lee sizer die? I need to order a 7mm sizer (.285) but would need to open it to .292, is it possible to open one that far and still have a round bullet? Or would it be better to get a die already cut that diameter?

I would use a reamer to get it to .290 then polish the last little bit.
Well, or make one from scratch.

You could use some coarse emery to get the major removal done then polish it with finer grits to final size. The sizers aren't very hard and removal goes pretty fast.

Josh and Brad , I ordered some from Doug over on the other site.
They are a little more expensive but worth far more than he charges.
Made of real steel and tweeked for easier use.
They use the Lee "catcher" .
He also cuts them for your preferred alloy.
I am thinking of ordering a couple more from him.
Haven't heard anything about the NOE ones.
Ben and others may have more info on him and the NOE's

It will probably be best to order an h&i die, are you talking about doug the cylinder reamer man?

Josh...I don't believe that is the same man.
I am searching for him, as so as I can locate him again I will post
his address, sorry.

I plan on shooting it in my 7x57, it has a wonderful bore just way oversize. The throat measures .292 with a groove diameter of .2875, it still turns in respectable groups at 100 yds with the long 175 gr jacketed though.

I have several push through sizers done by Buckshot on CB. His come with a bullet run through that sizer . He also does lube sizer bushings .

I thought he was out of the sizer die game? I have gotten many from him over the years, if he is still in operation I will be sending an order out.

Nice clean looking milsurp. Let us know results when you get your mold and have a chance to test it.

I have to shape the extractor some, it doesn't have enough curve in it and is digging into the web of the case. That makes it a pain to load and eject but other than that it shoots as nice as I can ask a 1916 mauser.

Josh,
I have opened up a Lee.329" to .3325" With the emory paper method The only problem i ran in to is the Ram being a bit too undersize.
I was getting base fining on plain base bullets…. Cured that by placing a copper gas check on the ram and running that home It took up the slack
All In all bullets are pretty round

Got my last custom push through from buckshot. I'd be sad if he quit making them.

Lathesmith made a really nice Star die for me. I think going up to .290 is doable, but a
bit tedious, perhaps. Try starting with about 120 grit wet or dry and check the progress
OFTEN. You might be surprised that .005 won't take too long with 120 grit.

I would leave about the last .002 to polish with 320 grit and finer, finishing with about 400 or
even a final polish with some 600 or 800 just for fun.

I have several of Chris's dies [lathe smith] I really cannot tell them apart from the original star dies nor the magma made ones except for how the top is stamped.

now that I think about it I need to order a couple more dies from him and some sizing stems.
and some RCE jackets for the 30 cal bullets.
and a 22 cal core mold, and core seat die from Brian.
and a couple of size trim dies from Dillon.
I also need to start sourcing more lead.

Sounds like an 8X56R man! Took me exactly 200 rolls with 320 to open mine to .331. It's round as far as I can tell.
