I'm fortunate to have a nice private firing range.
The range has a locked metal storage shed.
The shooting bench, chairs, target stands, spotting scopes, tripods, etc. are all stored in the shed.

The shooting bench is made out of 4 X 4's.
Pretty heavy, with three legs to minimize any chance of wobble.

If two of you show up at the range, getting the table in and out of the shed is workable.
If you are by yourself, it is DIFFICULT !

Life just got easier.

The front leg ( 4 X 4 ) got a wheel installed on it today.
I have no elect. power at the range, so all the work was done with Dewalt Lithium Ion tools, drill, saw, etc. The two rear legs have a removable steel bar now. Very easy to pick up the rear of the table now and shift the weight to the front wheel and it rolls just like a wheel barrow.

Why didn't I do this earlier ? ?

That is pretty cool. One of those palm to forehead moments, why didn't you do that sooner? :D

I need to make a bench, would you mind measuring the top dimensions for me? A design like that is good for both right and left handed shooters.

Rick,

I'll try and get you some more photos with good dimensions in the next few days.
Left hand shooters are equally at home with this one.
The bench top has been covered with carpet since these photos were taken.

I like many things about this shooting bench, but I really like the space that is available to you on the table top for ear muffs, ammo, etc.

Brains over brawn.
Sometimes an idea just pops into the head and makes you wonder why the hell you didn't think of it sooner.

Well done Ben.

Sounds like you need to cash in some favors and get some help building a bigger shooting shack....with a poured concrete bench and gunports/spotting port....and climate control....

Some years ago I put wheels on a potters treadle wheel that probably weighs close to 150 lb. It is still a beast to move around, but much easier than lifting and carrying the thing.

I just went with skids on my bench and pull it with my track wheelchair or the lawn mower, guess I could use the act winch to if needed, but I really don't plan to move it any time soon. Good job,you can always find a way.

Great looking shooting bench.
If you don't mind I'm going to pass the design along to the people that are in charge of Shooting sports @ the Philmont Scout Ranch. They were looking at improving their shooting benches. The wanted something stable but also still wanted them to be portable.
Many years ago there was a range west of Salt Lake City that used a similar design for the bench top but they were made from poured concrete. Best bench I ever used.

You ever sit on a 3 legged milk stool ?

It can't wobble !

Milk stool? Nah, goats udders are too low for that, I sit on an old truck mud flap with a rope handle, right down on the ground, "Indian style".

:D Makes sense now, couldn't figure out what a "mild" stool was. On the other hand the grocery store doesn't supply stools, just open the door and grab a gallon.
