Light Bullet in a M1894 Marlin

Years back I was playing with all kinds of bullet combinations in my 9mms. One was the Lyman 358345HP. It shot all right in the Browning HPs but gave me failure to feed from the magazine and due to its light weight, 113.5 grains. I bypassed it for heavier bullets. Several boxes of bullets were left over from this experiment on the bench.

I was loading some plinking rounds one day for the M1894 Marlin. Okay, why not so I loaded the remainder in .357 Mag cases over 6.3 grains of 700-X and threw them in the range box. They were sized at .3575”.

Several weeks later I spotted them and made a chronograph run. 1409 FPS average velocity. The biggest surprise was the accuracy. By the time I figured out how accurate they were. I’d plinked them up and I’d sold the mould without putting them on paper. I can tell you I missed very few clay pidgeons on the 100 yard berm.

Fed really nice through the Marlin too.

Anyone looking for a really nice plinking/varmint load might take a look at this one./beagle
