Light recoiling loads in the 300BLK

Further testing with 140s over 12-14gr 4227 showed better accuracy at 12.5-13gr, and 12gr did not hold the bolt open on an empty mag.

If it's uniform length, primer pockets swaged, and mouths chamfered that is one heck of a deal. I've been paying more than double that for new Federal brass that still must be chamfered before loading cast or powder coated bullets. Thing about the Federal stuff is it has very consistent anneal, has the correct headstamp (not that it really matters), and has never had the primers crimped.

our main load is 9.5 grs of AA#9 it pokes a 165 out near 1500 fps.
nice pleasant load [bolt guns remember]
I don't know how it would work in an AR.

That might work in a pistol gas AR, but I wouldn't even consider trying it in carbine gas unless I wanted to manually operate it.

I loaded more of the 13gr 4227 under 140gr RCBS and shot them out to 500m. Accuracy appeared excellent at 300m, still acceptable at 385m, but vertical dispersion was evident at 500m. Recoil is very soft and recovery time is quick, so will make for an excellent plinker load.

that's a long way for a little cartridge.
I wonder if a primer swap would help at the longer distance, maybe some weight sorting of the cases?

Its quite the impressive little cartridge at 500m with Lee 155s over 15.8gr H110. At 1920fps, it is quite a bit more stout that the 13gr 4227/140gr load. I'm pleased that the light load works so well at 300m. Another guy shoots 311332s (190gr) over 1680 for 1750fps+, and they looked pretty good at 500m as well.

I've changed scopes on the 300BLK carbine, and I'm really liking the clarity and fine reticle of the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x. The "light load" seemed to go wherever the tiny center dot was placed on the 8" gong at 100 yards. This load is a keeper!

What barrel length and twist? I have had some decent results with the Lee 155 and H110. I think I worked up to 16 g or so. Never fired them beyond 100 yards.
