Looking at 45 Colt replica

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Agreed. At the end of of any long day of debating, that's probably the most effective "get off me" loads in existence in .44 or .45 caliber.
Which is what keeps the Charter Bulldog cult alive and thriving!

If it's a Pietta or or Pedisolli (SP?) I think . They are I believe both owned by Beretta now and answer to their QC . There are 3 of the Italian repro makers now owned by them so basically if it's an Italian gun it's a Beretta .

fwiw - the Uberti is very strong also. As mentioned before, they do proof test them in EU. I proof tested my 45 Colt, albeit unintentionally! Real reloading screw up/fortunately the Uberti was up for it. Had old cans of both Unique and BE in the reloading room/they are same basic color... ( I store them elsewhere). I put a cylinder full through the gun. RSOs asked me when I was going elephant hunting with it! I was loading for the std Colt load - 454490 with 8.5 grns Unique. BUT - mixed cans and ended up with 8.5 grns of BE! That is a Contender/Ruger load on older manuals only! (Std Colt load for that bullet is 6.5 grns BE). I consider myself very lucky. The gun took it in stride, but bucked like a mad mule.

Davidson's is a distributor. but they get a lot of cool stuff to distribute.
limited edition Ruger stuff, that Ruger might decide to make and sell later or not [shrug]
rifles like the 275 Rigby number-one, the African in 375 H&H etc. the 44 special revolvers were Davidson's specials a couple of years before Ruger made more.
they also pick up deals on some very cool [and quite often very expensive] specialty type shotguns.

The black-powder 45 Colt loads were NO JOKE. From the SAA x 7.5" barrels most lots of issued ammo used 40 grains of 3F BP, and got close to 1000 FPS with the 255-260 bullets. The soft lead/tin bullets likely upset nicely in media, and the load was designed to shoot through a cavalry mount and reach a "hostile" taking cover behind said mount. Much of my current 45 Colt ammo runs #454424 in the 1000 FPS ballpark, and when those hit a steel target at 35 yards (like those at Angeles Shooting Ranges) you know there is some powder there. In the BisHawk's 7.5" barrel, the above-listed Unique and Herco loads approach 1000 FPS.

And Ric, you know where to ask if you want to try something different, but I expect you already have enough samples to supply a troop of cavalry for a Kyber pass expedition.

little more confusion.
there used to be a supply outfit called davison's back in like the 70's.
they sold little plastic ammo containers and various other do-dad's for reloaders.

About 26 years ago I bought a U.S.Ptd.F.A. single action in 45 Colt. It was made of Uberti parts, but fitted and finished "under the Blue Dome". Is a very close clone of the early SAA Civilian Model. I sent it back and had it fitted with an extra 45 ACP cylinder. The 45 Colt cylinder came with period .457 cylinder throats, but the ACP cylinder had .453 throats. These days I use the ACP cylinder loaded with 45 Cowboy Special brass and 453423 (sized .452) bullets over 4.5/BE. This load shoots to the sights, is very accuracy and has all the required thump to get er done. If looking for another Colt SA clone, I would certainly look for an Uberti. USFA.jpg

Just can't fathom a SA pistol as a pocket piece.............or even a DA, with an exposed hammer. Reason I own a shrouded hammer CA Bulldog.

She's a beauty Charles. Case coloring is perfect; not overdone like many reproductions I've seen.

It is my understanding that Doug Turnbull did the color case on these early ones. It is the tightest fitting handgun I have held in my hand. After 12 rounds the power residue would fill the teeny space between the cylinder boss and the frame, binding up the cylinder. I coated the cylinder boss with 320 grit Clover paste and rotated the cylinder a few hundred times, reapply the Clover when it started to be easy to turn. After a good cleaning, it was 100 percent reliable for 100 rounds and no more cylinder binding. It is a jewel, but oh the pinched frame rear sight is getting hard for these 77 year old eyes to see, but the handgun and I soldier on together.

Got "The Call" and can pick it up tomorrow. Never got to gauge it, as my shooting buddy Joe was in the hospital on Friday. Let you know how it turns out.
