Hello Guys
Does anyone have an extra small drum for an rcbs uniflow they would be willing to part with??
Been looking for a while and am scraping the drum coming up with nothing….

Or could anyone point me in the direction of a measure that would handle small pistol charges with good accuracy?

Thanks in advance!
Max

Max, here is what I did. I had just bought a used Uniflow, called RCBS and said I would like to buy another drum. The rep asking for my mailing information, said one would arrive in seven to 10 days, and there wouldn't be any charge. Wait! Wait! I don't want a free one. I want to pay for it. My plea fell on deaf ears.

Granted, that was some years ago.

The RCBS Lil' Dandy seems rather dandy, though the wee drums could get expensive quickly.

How 'bout that, shows two in stock. $36 if you are on their veteran program.

FWIW, the large drum throws small charges just a well as the small. I converted my Uniflow, years ago to the micrometer adjustment screw. Guess what? You can only use the micrometer with the large drum. Apparently, RCBS thinks the same way as I do, regarding small charges.

I also have two Hollywood powder dispensers with micrometer adjusting screws. I don't think Hollywood offered small drums. They work well with small charges of powder. In fact, all three of my manual dispensers are dedicated to throwing small charges of Bullseye. Each set for a different charge weight, depending on caliber.

For everything else, the RCBS Chargemaster get the nod.

Max, if you must have a small drum and your search doesn't pan out, PM me. I have one around here that I can part with.

Interesting enough the one rcbs sells now is an all in one drum. It has an insert that converts it from large to small.

The reason for the small drum is flake style powders. I tried a buddy’s small drum with unique and clays powder and it was much more consistent than my large drum.
The large drum works perfect with easy to meter powders like bullseye and hp38.

Will pm shortly about your spare drum.

Thank you!

John, when I bought my large micrometer adjustment screw -- it, too, was many years ago -- they were available for both large and small drums.

I've had the micrometer adjustment conversion for a long time too...........can't recall if they made one for each size drum.

When I decided to make it a dedicated small charge measure, I tried to use the small drum with the micrometer. Didn't work.

FWIW, I didn't have any issues using flake powders like Unique with either drum. Least ways to make any difference in pistol./revolver rounds. Unlike the miss information on the net. Key is to learn how to operate it properly and consistently.

I've done small charges of Bullseye and Titegroup with each and there's a difference in consistency. Haven't tried comparing the bigger flake powders. The large drum will only go down to about 2.7 grains of Titegroup before it binds up, the small on goes to about 1 grain.

Seriously? One grain of Titegroup. Shooting insects? Becoming a tightwad? Can't recall ever going down past 3.2 grains of anything.

2.4 grains is my 75-grain subsonic .223 load, large drum won't do it. I cranked the small one down as low as it would go just out of curiosity.

Well, I don't load anything smaller than 243W and 9mm. No use for subsonic loads. I'll just use the X-bow if noise is a problem.

The large drum has dropped 2.5 gr of Unique but it was binding a little .
I finally found a small drum in Dad's stuff but no guts ........ Ended up begging another set of guts from RCBS . No spares here , 3 measures 1 small drum .

It sure is nice to be able to drop 2-2.5 gr RD or Unique with no draw or bind shuffle .

Same experience here, which is why I just ordered the small a few weeks ago. Didn't need it until I started playing with small charges for the 38.
