Love the smell of animal fat and bp in the morning.

Well after a couple months of collecting the parts amd gear to reload 577/450 I got to playing this morning. Just working up a load ATM but it has begun. Love putting these 140 year old war horses back in action. Enfield Martini Henry Mark IV from IMA.

It smells like.....VICTORY!

Especially on a humid day that's threatening rain. Makes everything smell "organic". I feel sorry for those who only know the smell of warm electronics, plastic, loud perfumes, and fast food.

Don't think I've ever seen or heard that put quite so well. Have to say though, most engineers (including electronics) I've known had a fondness for firearms.

3 shots, .455 405gn Boolits I had around cast up for my 45-70s, home made BP filled to the start of the neck 85ish grn. Not to bad for a little underside boolit, shot unsupported at 50. Probobly be right on the money at 100. Love living in the country shoot off the back porch during the kidos nap time.

Interesting! I recall reading an article on the Boar War, about the 577-450, and the
comparison of it to the Boar's Mauser 7x57's. Regardless, your group is impressive!
Keep us posted on your further testing please.

I was reading some on those battles while researching the 7x57 actually. Having both and I can see why the Boers handed the Brits their rears so bad. Very lopsided battle in terms of technology. Would not want to be in a fight using single shot Martin Henrys vs Bolt mausers let along the range the 7x57 have the Boers over the early 303 with cordite.

The Boar War was fascinating in many ways. One of which was the implementation
of "concentration camps", by the British!

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Good shooting. I must say you fence post won't last long at that rate.

They are only my very occasional target holder. Sometime the itch is just to much and I set up a target and make some noise off the porch if Im home with the kidos when they are down for naps. My range is literally only 25 yards behind the house though. I have a bench directly behind the house and shoot down the underground gas line into the next hill side. If I really wanted to I could do almost 500 yards hill to to side hill. What I have setup I can stretch to 250 easy. Anyone is more than welcome to come use it when ever dont be strangers.

Very good results from an old battle implement like that. I wonder if the original ammo was even
as good.
I was always pretty skeptical of the old original ammo which looked like something an innovative,
but financially limited 8th grader had made in his basement.

Your cartridges look so much better! Seems like they would have to be more durable
and shoot better, too.

I got my brass from X-Ring. Killer price over all. I have everything to form them just a matter of tackling the project. Very intimidating the amount goes into this caliber.
