Anybody have or use this mold? I have one that I bought with the idea of using it for my 7.62 x 39; never got around to using the mold yet.

I've used it in a Blackhawk 30 Carbine with SR4759, started low and was just getting it up to where it looked like was going to work well when testing came to an end. Another project I never got back to. I have three molds in that bullet. A Lyman and two MP brass four cavs, all with HP pins and one all PB and one GC. Have never yet used the GC mold, where I was running the bullet a check was just silly.

I have the MP version, HP/PB. I’ve barely tested it so far, initial results are fairly encouraging. I’ll be shooting it more during this winter.

I use it in my 30 Herrett, 300BLK, 7.62x39, 7.62x42 and 7.62x51 chambered rifles. keep the velocity around 1600fps or less and its an amazing little bullet (all target work, no hunting)

Good to hear from you Bruce, I'm not shooting the 7.62 x 39 any more (moved on to a 22 Nosler and a 6.5 Grendel) but I sure can use it for the 300 BO. Thanks.

I have hemmed and hawed about snagging a Lyman #311440. To Rick et all--will the 30 Carbine Blackhawk's cylinder length allow seating to that upper groove and still revolve without interference?

Had no problems with length or crimping. I was looking to defeat the well deserved reputation of loud. Was successful with that but the starting loads were to light and no accuracy. Increasing 1/2 grain at a time groups were just starting to come in as the loud also increased. Not loud to factory level loud but getting louder. Most of the testing I did was with 32-20 brass.

32-20 brass has 5.1% more weight/capacity than 30 Carbine brass measured with water and of course it's a rimmed case.

Groups just started to improve at 8.5 Gr SR4759, still a light load. Recommend if you use this powder to start at 9.0 Gr. & work up.

Initial testing used BR-4 and CCI 400.

I had Erik make new HP pins for the Lyman mold, Lyman's original pin was huge and so loose in the blocks couldn't keep it in while casting and it leaked around the pin. Also had the Lyman bevel base removed for a plain base bullet. The HP pin I had made is what I call the Fryxell Profile Pin - HP cavity of .150" diameter at the mouth, cavity with 7 degree taper and extended .250" into the bullet with a rounded tip.

Good to read that info about OAL and crimping. Thank you.

All of the 30 and 32 caliber handgun rounds are obnoxiously loud once velocities exceed 950-1000 FPS. 30 Luger, 30 Mauser/7.62 x 25 Tokarev, 32 H&R Mag do a pretty good imitation of "30 Carbine Blackhawk" bark as well. WORST EVER is the 327 Federal, though--it surpasses the 30 BH when full-value loads get run in the SP-101 x 4.25".
