I picked up a single cavity Lyman 429215 mould ( Ray Thompson's Design ) a few days ago for my 44 Spec. and 44 Magnums.
The mould cast very nice bullets.
I have a Handi rifle in .44 Mag. with a 1-38 Twist barrel that doesn't like long heavy bullets. ( Maybe I just didn't have the velocity up high enough ? ? )
The Handi - Rifle does like shorter , lighter bullets in the 200 gr. - 225 gr. weight range.
I thought this one might have some application in my slow twist Handi.
Yesterday I cast about 60 - 70 just to try out the mould. I'm using aluminum gas checks. They are on the gas check shank TIGHT ! !
These size out to .4316" , lubed with Carnuba Blue and then rolled in BLL.

Ben,
I’d bet it will shoot well . That always been a favorite bullet for me in my 44 special.

PS: I’ve got to where I love my single cavity molds.

I keep looking at that thinking 44-40, 20" model 92, and 2400.
perfect truck load for stuff out to 100yds or so.

it depends on the gun it's in.
there have been loads from Winchester that rival the 44 mag and loads that run with the 44 special.
the 44-40 was the round that made the 73 colt and the 73 and 92 win famous.
speaking of the 92 in 44-40 most of them got sent to South America, they got a nick name like El-Tigre or something like that, and a ton more got sent to Australia.
it would be a pretty good bet the 44-40 is still in the top 5 for the number of people killed.

That sized to .430-.4305 would be perfect for my Uberti Cimarron SAA Clone in 44-40! It has a 4 5/8" bbl. Figure about 7.0 grns HP-38 or 8.0 grns Unique!

Ben - as mentioned, 44-40 is very dependent upon the gun. My particular one has ~.430 throats. I am using a Lee 44-200 that actually drops WW+2% @ ~215 grn. It is a RNFP PB. BLL. Gun likes 8.0-8.5 grns Unique and 7.1 grns HP-38. You should try one of you find it cheap like I did (~$350). They are a hoot to shoot, little steeper learning curve than most, but once you crack the code no big deal imo. Always welcome to shoot mine if we meet at the range.
