Ever wonder how to tell if your mould is too hot? A good sign to me is....

When bullets break when dropping from the mould they aren't fully set. These were after a 3 count, sprue cut, 4 count in front of fan with plate open, then dropped. Still too hot.

This was a Lee 6 cav for the 45 collar button. Smallish cavity really for a Le 6 cav due to shallow depth. Bottom poured I never had this happen, with a ladle it is easy to get. Shows how much more heat transfer is possible with a Rowell ladle.

Yes, the heat transfer is significantly more. That might be one of the biggest reasons ladle-pouring is generally considered the better way to cast. That and filling up the cavity really fast with minimal turbulence. With eutectic alloys it can get really confusing because there is less of a mush phase, things are fine and then suddenly you have liquid bullets.

All the kings horses and the kings men couldn't put Brad's two peice button bullets back together again.

The star with to much lube pressure can make high antimony slugs do that to.
