Ben, really like seeing this thread. I collect Iver Johnson handguns (over 70) and have every model since 1889. Some are new in the box, some are one-of-a-kind prototypes and I even have several cutaway salesman samples. Of course I have many shooters and love to bring them out for a trip to the range. They are definitely harder to shoot with those small sights when our eyes get older.

Your welcome. I don't get to shoot my Iver Johnsons (the ones that are shooters and not to nice or rare to shoot) as much as I would like. But it is so fun when I do. I am just a sucker for anything different for the norm, firearms anyway.

On the sights- I've got several older revolvers suffering from the same issue. One is a very nice IJ with a 6" barrel (IIRC, it's the only one I've seen with a barrel longer than 4") and it's BLUED on top of that which is rather a rarity for an IJ in my area. At any rate, the sights are a joke at best. I'd love to use the gun more but these days my eyes are worthless with small sights. I've considered basically using Krazy Glue to try and address this issue without marring the gun, not that IJ's are worth big bucks, but you get the idea. On the larger platforms a "Wonder Sight" can be attached at the cost of one screw hole. Another alternate I've thought of for K frame sized fixed sighted guns with dismal fixed sights is to adapt a J frame adjustable. Means a little milling, but in my Colt Army Special it would mean owning a working field gun instead of a "I used to use that one a lot" gun.

Any thoughts or better ideas?

I have done three guns, two Colts and one S&W, with J frame sights. It works well, but you also have to have a taller front. Good Luck! Ric
