my Lee 4-20 quit working

It was probably about 5 years old and has many casting sessions under its belt. While I was waiting for the new heating coil to be delivered I took the pot apart to get ready to fix it.
I was surprised that the failed heating coil just disintegrated as I was taking it out. The only thing that stayed together was the thin wider in the center of the coil.

I keep thinking that I should add another 20# pot to my bench so that I don't need to switch alloys. Both of mine Lyman and Lee, are 20 years old at minimum and have tons of lead through them.

My Lee 4-20's pot failed and dumped about 15 pounds of melted metal on my bench. I was lucky. My antyique Lyman just got a new heat controller and insulation and is running great. I scour garage sales looking for another one!

The same thing happened to me about a year ago. A heating coil was a very easy fix and I was back up and running in a week with shipping from Lee.

I’ve got two Lee pots that I’ve used for a long time. One was rebuilt about 12 years ago and when I ordered a new element I got a spare, just in case. You never know when they may go out.
