My "new" 35 Whelen.

The rifle Ruger should have built. It was a 1B 30-06 w/4X wood (I bought it for the wood). Redid the wood w/my English Red method and sent the bbled action off to JES. (Finding a black pad w/wood like this is like finding an honest politician)

Now it's a 35 Whelen twin to my 1B 9.3x62 JES made me.

Both great cast bullet guns in the heavier 1B platform. (I have a 1S in 9.3x74 --- it kicks !)

Indulge yourself. I have 15 (?). A good red pad in a common chambering can be had for $800. For cast a 1B or a Tropical are the better choices. A 375 H&H Tropical loaded to 38-55 levels is a hoot to shoot.

Good afternoon
Nice wood !!
I have to agree... #1's are well worth the money.
I am considering sending our 06 off to JES but it is a toss up between a 338 -06 or something in a caliber 40 something..
Already have a 375 HH with a Microdot on it as we hunt mostly river bottoms.

Well, Missionary, you certainly are following Roark's exhortation to "use enough gun". :)

Fine looking rifles, there.

Probably not as at my age Elk hunting requires an outfitter. Have 2 on the wall one with a 400 Whelen and one with a 61 cal flinter.
Finally bagged a bighorn last year and hoping to draw a Goat. If our Gov ever grows a set and tell the Feds where to go, we might get a Griz season.
