They are scarce, and have never been made in large numbers. I have only fired one example, 10 rounds from one of the late Bruce Bannister's 52s. Tackdriver, for sure.

Very nice. I dont shoot mine very often at all. I used to shoot it in 3 Gun Bullseye competition. Then started just shooting 22/45 for both the CF & 45 sections.
Last year I picked up a real nice H&G Arsenal 10cav #50 mold and thought maybe bring this outta retirement! But that has yet to happen.

Do you shoot Bullseye? A nice set of Herretts stocks are a nice addition if you do.
Good luck,

Don - let us know how it does. I remember when they were a big deal but never bought one. Always good reports on them.

Being almost exclusively a Colt man, I've never heard of the S&W Model 52. While I (we) have branched out with recent acquisitions of a Dan Wesson and a Ruger, I've obviously led a sheltered life.

I'll be watching for a S&W Model 52. Is there a big difference between the -1 and the -2?

45 ACP Guardian in the standard black "duty finish". The young'un carries it around the homestead. It's pretty sweet. Even though it's 10 oz. (+/-) lighter than my original Colt 1911, felt recoil feels the same from both.

Ah . . . Silly silhouette shooter me. When I read DW for some reason only "revolver" came to mind.

Living in America is sure sweet huh? Don't think doing that in CA would be a good plan.

Best I can recall, the 52 was SA or DA; I never heard of anyone who was happy with the DA or who didn't regret going to DA. When you make the change (a set screw IIRC), you mess up all the SA settings.

The 52-1 and 52-2 were SA only. The 52-2 had a different extractor and some other minor changes. Feed the 52 and 52-1s from the magazine only, as there is some slight risk of breaking the extractor if the round is dropped in the chamber and the extractor has to click over it.

Mags: I've not heard any substantial claims for superiority of plastic followers or metal followers. I certainly never saw any. If you find mags, buy them. In '99 I got a 52 (no dash) for $200 because the seller didn't have--and couldn't find--any magazines. I had two in my mag box. It was 5 years before I saw another for sale.

Have always favored semi autos (especially Mr. J.M. Browning's design) and SAAs above DAs. That's not to say I don't have an itch for a S&W Model 57 or DW Model 15 or 'in a perfect world' a DW Model 15 in 41 Mag. with a set of 3", 6" and 8" barrels.

I got a cabinet full of dan wessons and still ain't found many of them like the 41 mag, 45 colt ,414 SM, or the 32-20 laying around anywhere.
I even had a good friend that run a gun shop and travelled the show circuit looking for me with instructions to snap any of them, or their accessories up, if the price wasn't out of bounds.
he brought me back a good bunch of barrels, some different grips, a few empty boxes, and occasionally a complete gun.

At large, whereabouts unknown.
I've got a treasure in the closet too. A friend has me getting his Colt National Match wadcutter gun ready to post on GunBroker. I'm working on taking a set of decent pics of it for the auction. I've already researched its history the best I could. First production year pre-Goldcup, with a three digit S/N.

Oooooooooo!!!!! GUN PORN!!!!!!

Nice find! Seems like it was just a couple months back when that was THE Bullseye pistol. Turns out it's been several decades! They had a super rep!
