There is an entire line of TCU cartridges including 6mm, 6.5mm, 7mm and 30. RCBS has dies for all of them including forming dies.

I was thinking of a good cast shooter and a 7 TCU fits the bill. A 30 TCU wouldn't be bad either, kind of a long 300 BLK.

25/45 Sharps. It's still 45mm long same as 5.56. Almost got one one time but fortunately pulled my head out in time.

I still don't see what's wrong with .223 Remington, other than "already got one". I'd look for another barrel before reboring or stubbing the one the rifle came with. Once you have an SB2 receiver the options are endless.

Id love to find a wood stocked in 223 or 308 local for about that money, but they're all 200+$ round here. Decided another cheap bolt is even handier.

I don't know about you guys, but I have a weakness for single-shot cartridge rifles of any configuration and would rather shoot a break than a bolt most days at the range.

I too have a fondness for single shots but I'm most attracted to falling block actions. Too bad a nice one is so darned expensive.

Falling blocks and rolling blocks have the distinct advantage of being reloadable without disturbing the rifle from the bags. Breaks are a lot of fun just shooting off-hand.

I ain't a huge fan of either one but a Highwall in 17 Remington would get a pretty good workout around here.
[like I need another caliber to load for:rolleyes:]
a scaled down K-31 action, or the sks with the magazine cut flush [down to 2-3 shots] in a 25 or a 6mm X39 version with a medium heavy 22-24" re-barrel would also be most welcome.
a nice peep sight like the older Lyman or Marbles and a globe insert on the front wouldn't hurt my feelings either.

My Thoughts about the constant adjustment on the bags was a reason I didn't think I would be thrilled with these Handi's however after Reading the info on Grey Beards site I see they recomend using the front rest on the receiver right in front of the trigger ( supposed to be better then resting the fore end) One other plus I found is if you break the action in this position the barrel drops and the receiver doesn't move much on the rest so getting back on target is no worse then shooting a rifle with a bit of recoil! You are going to ave to reposition it one way or another.

While that is true Jim, I remember a day shooting pdogs, when a friend of mine had
an H&R single in 223. I was shooting a heavy bbl 223 bolt that day. He pretty much
matched me dog for dog, and we were shooting out to about 300. I will never knock
one of the little singles. That said, I prefer #3, and #1 Rugers!
