Gun buys: they are a "family issue": never have been told not to! ( just how we need to move the money around to get it!)
Guess I'm lucky

I'm not smart, and dumb, enough to do that?
I'm fortunate to have an honest, open relationship with my wife. Keeping secrets isn't something we are good at.
She is smart enough to understand that if I talk about it long enough it will end up coming home. I don't tend to make rash decisions and generally research purchases well in advance.

Don't need to hide any purchases. Mrs. smokeywolf says if I want it, then I must need it. Although she will update me on finances, she hates making decisions and always defers to me.

Mines pretty understanding and I wouldn't get rid of her for nothing.
I need to sneak one of those model 12 bvss savages in like you did Ben. I really wish you hadn't posted that I've looked at those for a long time. I know when you start posting pictures of targets it will push me over the edge.
My wife does question some of my lead purchases. Like " Why do you need a 55 gallon drum of wheel weights when you already have like 6 5 gallon buckets full."

I've had 2 wives and now a Ms. A couple of times it has been suggested that it was bad time for a particular purchase . For a while there was a fair amount of trading that went on and often I couldn't keep track of what I had in the swap box corner . Funny that . In both cases of parted ways the worst of the discussions was when she didn't want me to pay my full half of outstanding debt ....... I finally bullied her up to taking almost 40% . Weird actually neither ever made a run on guns ,cars or tools ......

Yeah I may have snuck a couple in over the years but they were dirt cheap and worth more than I paid by a fair margin , the 03A3 stands out ,I got a whole servicable rifle for less than then available bbl'd actions 6 months later shortly before it was discovered the prices went nuts . Showed her an ad and the receipt and that was that .
This Ms is an enabler it's not cool actually. ......ok maybe it is.

Back when Brad and I were deep into black powder shooting we had a friend who used the
following ploy every time he bought a new gun. He would wait till after he was in a shoot,
and show the wife the new rifle he had just won. Got away with it for quite awhile.

Yup,got all the way to professional status.

One kinda funny story on the subject was 15 or so years ago.Maybe 20?Anyway,I was knocking down huge construction/cabinet jobs and the money was flowing pretty well. This came to a screaching halt when we started putting 4 boys through college.

I was into early'ish #700's...and flat top Savage 10/110's.Like a kid in a candy store with money burning a hole. They all would end up looking about the same.Harris bpod, sporters and light varmint rigs, synthetic stocks sprayed a sagey green with black spider webs. These were hunting rigs with appropriate scopes.

One day,for whatever reason....10 or so were out of the safes.Just can't remember why they were all lined up?Might've been cleaning the safes?
Anyway, all of these rigs had been snuck in.

Well in her once in a Blue moon that the wife EVER comes into our shop.....think sneaking a long gun is interesting, try a two ton pce of equipment. She just never comes into the shop....probably the noise, which is why she doesn't shoot.

She walks in and there's an 8' long line of rifles.I'm sort of....uhh ohh.She stops and stares at them, looong pause. Then just shakes her head and walks off.Now understand,we're working on 40 years of bliss. And these rigs weren't pit together overnight.

Every once in a while she'll drop a hint of that day.Now it's not as fun, just tell her it's for one of her boys and she'll gift wrap the dang box, sheeesh.

You might be a gun nut if-

Your wife asks where that rifle came from but, you've owned it for years and SHE shot it last week.
