OK, been hanging around that "other" casting site and recently found this one. I think I like this place better!

Just scratching the surface of casting now.

Looking forward to sharing information and learning from you guys to be much better at casting than I am now!

Got a few Lee aluminum molds in my stash and recently picked up a couple older Lyman steel molds.

California's Central Coast Amid The Insanity
Welcome.

Life is calm and relaxing, here, unlike that other place.
I'm up on the Central Coast, and was stationed at the old George Air Force Base, in Victorville, for almost two years.

Greetings from MN.

Decades ago, before I was into reloading/casting, I had a unconverted 1871 Swiss Vetterli. It was in primo-mint condition. I liked the "square" checkering, never seen that on any other rifle. I wanted to shoot the rifle so bad, that I started buying up cartridges (one at a time) from collector dealers at the gunshows. Most were $1 or $2 each (this was the 1990s, LOL). When I got 8 of them, I took the Rifle to the range. Most didn't fire, two of them did...Guess what, that last one was kind of squib-ish and the bullet got stuck in the bore

I remember George AFB. When I got out of the Army I went in the Army NG and would drive-by there going to the gaurd unit in Apple Valley. You should see the place now.

I was stationed at George after returning from Viet Nam in June '69 and got discharged from there in April '71. Victorville survived off the base, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans lived in Apple Valley and I used to see his (pink) Cadillac with longhorn steer horns hood ornament and Colt 73s (replicas?) for door handles. I lived off-base across the highway from where the new prison is now located, and frequented (Roy's?) one of the two Adelanto beer joints.

WOW!!, just realized that was 50 years ago. Where does the time go?

I know the Central coast as well. My first duty station in the Army was Ft Ord. Sad to see most of the old WWII wooden buildings gone or dilapidated. I was there from 1982 to 1984 and spent a bunch of my time off surfing Santa Cruz and Capitola.

I'm sure that when they were going to put Ft Ord in its location, they must have studied the weather for a year. "Clear in Seaside, clear in Marina but foggy right here in the middle. Yep, they will hate it. Put it right on this spot."

Last time I drove through it was sad to see that the old Stilwell Hall was gone. I really like the Monterey bay area.

Stilwell Hall was ready to fall over the cliff and into the bay.

Hook up with Joshua, he was a Capitola surfer.

Welcome. I spent my first thirty years living in South Santa Clara and Santa Cruz County. I know the area well.

When I was little I watched my dad and his friend dismantle an old barracks at Fort Ord. It was all old growth red wood, with oak flooring. We cut up the scrap for firewood. That stuff must have been covered in lead paint. We burned all that scrap.
