Picked up a Swede Sporter from my gunsmith recently. He replaced the worn barrel with Husqvarna 9.3x57 take off from another project. The bolt handle was replaced with a Remington 700 handle. Haven’t shot it yet, but plan to after the holiday. Got some 280 grain cast bullets and several boxes of jacketed on the shelf.

I am envious of that rifle.

THAT appeals to me much more than the really fine customs with nice checkering, skeletonized butt-plates/grip caps, etc. Those guns are nice, but I just love a plain-Jane rifle like this. Sound like a very fin cast-bullet caliber as well and I LOVE Mausers.

Jeff - I know what you like (wink wink!) as do I! And why I like the one I got from you!

Looked at the 9.3x57, but need another caliber like another hole in my head. and with numerous 45-70s, a 43 Spanish, 38-55, 358 Win and 35 Remington - I am all good on big fat calibers...

you will love that rifle!!! i do!!

i neck up 8x57 Prvi brass to 9.3x57. also, i did '06 brass to 9.3x57. i used 285gr Prvi RN to fire form it. then a 280gr RN GC and IMR4895.

i bought Bull Shop's 275gr WFN GC and the fun started. i killed 3 or 4 deer with it and every one of them was DRT.

i tried to find a side scope mount, but i gave it to my gunsmith so he could D&T it normally.

the 9.3x57 is my 2nd favorite rifle. (the first is the Winchester m94 in 35/30-30.) if i had known about 9.3x57 years ago, it would be #1, well close to it.

Well, hey! Don't patch up those extra holes! You can slap a stick of "rail" on that baby and mount a laser, a light and a set of "co-witness," sideways sights on that thing and be the envy of the masses!

Kidding aside, those extra holes are lovely - a part of its history.

That IS a beautiful rifle and, again, I am envious.

Been considering getting my Swede tapped for a receiver peep sight. My old eyes like them better than traditional iron sights and they don’t add much “clutter” to the receiver.

I had a Swedish Mauser. For many years, I was going to convert it to a larger cartridge. My idea was to punch it up to the 450 Marlin. Was all set to ship it off but right about then I began to appreciate the 45-70 less and less. Ended up selling the Mauser un-changed. Might get one to rework to a 40 rimless of some sort to complement my 405 WCF.
