Oh no, none of that driving on roads or highways for this crew. NOT on New Year's Eve.
When I was working, I had very few NYEs off duty. Our usual mode was to find an overpass to park under about 5 minutes before midnight, to protect patrol car and self from the falling bullets. After 12-15 minutes, it was fairly safe to leave cover. Keep in mind, my county spanned 7,200 sq. miles, and more than half is snake ranch between Indio and Blythe. We would still lose 2-5 windshields, door glass, rear windows, or light bars every year due to falling bullets. After sun-up, there would be 5-15 calls reporting holes in house and business rooftops, patio awnings, parked cars, you name it. Ludicrous.
Happy New Year to all, and I do resolve to more more fishing/hunting/shooting than I did in 2018 or 2019. That is not a lofty goal, given the absence of outdoor playtimes the past couple years. But I will strive to make better numbers in 2020.
