Opportunity?

Hoping this is an opportunity to test some of my cast boolits, either .30 or .44 cal. it don't matter. Seems my little tract of woodland has become infested (infected?) with porcine critters. At least one big one and a few smaller. They've plowed up 4 or 5 acres in the field next to the woods waiting to be planted, my tenant won't be happy. They have heavy cover to hide in. I'm putting corn in front of a camera to see when they're moving. If this don't work I know a fella with some good dogs. Gonna go out side and make some sour corn to see if I can bait 'em out of the bushes. Wish me luck. GW

Porcine not porcupines .
As I understand hog behavior they run kind of a big unstable circle spending just a few days here and there as they go . They might be back in 6 weeks or 6 months they may for no reason at all do a big S turn and skip half the circle and come back around the other way .

Good luck with the hunt .
A green light is the go to if you don't have night gear . Drop it down on to them or sweep into them but don't point it at them and turn it on .
If you're left with a head on shot wait for the chest or a full head down that shows the neck unless you are sure about running it up the snout .
I've seen them run off hit solid with a 300 WSM at 60 yd and just collapse hit with a 900fps 255 gr SWC out of a 45 Colts.

Good luck!

I'd use my Marlin GG for hogs, or the .45 Colt Bhawk if they were close enough.

Good luck! A friend shot two in Jan with an 8mm Mauser that I put a scope on, and he said
it killed with authority. Both were males and they strongly recommended just walking away, even
though he went with the idea of getting meat. Apparently pretty much impossible to make the
boars palatable. I loaded a 150 Hornady ordinary bullet at about 2800 fps for him. The guides
were impressed with how well it killed, apparently unfamiliar with 8x57.

Boars under 200# are ok as a guide first hand suggests that the gameyness starts closer to 180# . Don't worry about sows either even if they have a litter in tow the little suckers are survivably self sufficient by 4 weeks if they keep up with the sounder , from a sportmans view of course . As an exterminator who cares , what better way than live targets to test ammo , mortal wounds are as good as drt . I do prefer drt and the damned things breed so fast that sex reduction has little to no impact . Sows can deliver 30-50 pigglets per yr and the first litter can deliver a litter and have another on the way in that same yr . 1 sow 1yr 150 pigs . Of course a boar will succeed 10x a month .........
