Said this before, but I've learned more from thread drift than if the thread had stayed on topic, and, because of that, I read threads that normally would be of no interest.

My Dad gave my sister a S&W M&P 4" when she divorced her 1st husband. Went to the range with them just after I bought a Speed-Six 2 3/4", put Pach compacs on it.
She STOLE IT.
That was in 1978, I didn't get it back until she passed last year. 2nd husband called to have me come get the lockbox he thought a gun was in. No idea what happened to the M&P.

No one in My Family carries. But for house guns: My Wife has a Service-Six 3" and My Daughter has a G19. Colt 1911 for Me.

Rockydoc, I agree with you on the semi-auto in part. There's the cost factor and the learning curve of a pump vs. semi-auto and there are other factors at play that make me lean towards the pump action for home defense. And there's a very good chance that only one shot will be needed anyway !

S Mac- I also agree the sound of racking a pump action may have some psychological effect but I would never rely on that working. I think there are a lot of people that would NOT be afraid of that sound.
I agree with both of you about the psychological effect of a slide action sound. Add a laser sight, flash that little red around and you are likely to get a surrender without a shot fired.

As far as cost factor is concerned look at a Tri-Star Viper. Made in Turkey. It has beautiful Turkish Circassian walnut stock, and chrome lined barrel with 4 choke tubes for less than $700. It comes with shims for custom fitting. I have one and love it.
