Crap, I have been remelting the bullets I use for hardness testing. I can use them anyways?
I gotta start watching more YouTube videos

Be easier to watch if there wasn't the constant background noise of some radio jock.

I like the part where he uses the LEE to calibrate his LBT to double confirm his 30 BHN in 24 hrs after his nearly 1/2hr cook time..

I have a feeling Rick watched this video [then his head exploded] and he hasn't been able to comment.

Rick didn't watch the video, clicked on it and saw 12 minutes and turned it off. Just from the title of this thread I wasn't in the mood for 12 minutes of nonsense. From Fivers post #9 it seems I made a wise decision. Biggest problem with such stuff is that a new caster will watch stuff like that and set their learning curve back by years assuming they even continue casting at all.

I'm still trying to figure out how he got those crazy readings from an LBT tester. I tried to duplicate his nonsense and couldn't even come close. He did mention that he used the LEE hardness tester to "calibrate" the LBT. That might have something to do with it.

There is no way I know of to "Calibrate" the LBT Tester.
He seemed to be using it correctly, though a little sloppily.
Everything about this seems off, especially his testing of the bullet on a round surface. Seems like that may give a softer reading as you have less material contact at the initial point of contact and more material contact at the finish.

The round surface also allows metal to move sideways giving a false reading. I think Veral calibrates them by bending the frame, not something I would attempt, could easily screw it up beyond repair. Guess I'll have to break down and watch the stupid video.

Hasn't anyone read Dennis Marshall's articles on heat treatment in the NRA's "Cast Bullets," Lyman's "Cast Bullet Handbk., 3rd. Ed.," and or RCBS' "Cast Bullets, Vol. I"?

Ages ago to be honest. I'll dig it out again, it's here somewhere.
