Yes, good load in my rifle, and as I get better, the groups will be more consistent.

I will have to look for a can of RX-7 to try, but I can't complain much about Varget either.

No chronograph yet. Definitely on the bucket list for this year :)

Besides shooting the Mauser 358Win for the first time today, I shot again the remaining full power rounds that I had shot at 100yards using Ian's premium cast bullets:
10917

I also had some rounds that forum member "popper" gave me to try on my rifle. This was the 50 yard target:
- Top left - Ian's bullet - 41.5gr Varget (not only the best group at this combination, but this is also the smallest cast bullet group I have ever shot at 50 yards with this rifle)
- Top right - Ian's bullet 42.0gr Varget (note that at 100 yards this was also a larger group than the 41.5gr group)
- Bottom left and right: tried 5x shot groups, twice, but obviously my rifle does not do well with this combo:
10918

Close-up of my best ever 5x shot group at 50 yards with this rifle:
10919

Thanks Ian and popper for letting me try these ;)

Will, don't feel bad. Last 10 of 40 308W @ 100, rest of what I sent you. Dang my shoulder is still sore. Bag under front, shoulder on the back. Need to improve for pig season.

In the morning I did 300BO, then 100 or so 40, lunch then the 308, wore out. Glad you did get some results, harder alloy? and sized 310.

Mostly pick-up, fire one and repeat. The middle does have a mag dump with 2 hands.

No worries man. All good. I had fun at the range today for sure :)

That 30 SIL bullet sure does like to group at high velocity.

Question: Did the blue bullets with Josh's aluminum checks made the slightly bigger group?

Both of the top 5x shoot groups were fired with your blue hollow-point bullets. The top right group which was slightly larger happens to be with just an extra 1/2 grain more of Varget at 42.0gr, which starts showing a larger spread. The top left group with 41.5gr Varget with your blue bullet seems to be as fast as I can drive them to group well in my rifle.

Ah. All of those blue ones had the thin, very soft aluminum gas checks and were cull bullets with odd weights (+/- .3 grains). Alloy should have been in the 13-14 BHN range IIRC. Not too shabby from an 18" barrel. One of these days I'll load some of those in mine with RX-7 and see how they do.

Probably last year for the 308W, getting to be too hard on the body. Guess SIL gets a good carbine.
