Putting a scope on a T/C Contender

My .222 Remington barrel had nice sights on it.
However, I'm " Pushing 70 " now.
Getting a clear sight picture with open sights to utilize the full potential of
the .222 Rem cartridge would be ' tricky ' at best for me.

So, today I removed the rear sight, cleaned the barrel and scope mounting holes
with a bottoming tap. Amazing all the crud you'll get out of those 4 holes.

All 4 of my scope base mounting screws were tried to be absolutely certain that
the screws bottomed out and did not need to be shortened. All of mine tightened up fine.

Step 1 clean out the 4 holes :

I like to clean out the holes with compressed air and a clean cotton cloth dipped
in brake cleaner to degrese the holes prior to mounting the scope base.

I use a Weaver 92-A scope base on all my T/C Contenders.

I like to also clean the screw threads with brake cleaner , allow them to dry and coat them with clear lacquer nail polish, then wind them down tight. I've never had a screw loosen using this method.

Everything is on and ready for the range.
