IIRC, either Burris or Leupold has a red dot mount for their optic. Installs between the butt stock and reciever.

I'm not up on all the current options. I've had a Armson OEG on my LH Remington 1100 slug barrel since the 80's, long before red dots became popular. It's DYI, engineered by me.

I took a set of 1" Millet vent rib shotgun rings and had them adapted to mount on the base of the factory mid barrel open rear sight. Friend was a machinist and he open them up and cut the correct angle in the rings to match the Remington base slope. Replaced the set screws with button heads and tapped the side of the soldered on factory base. No need to drill and tap the receiver. Don't need the red dot, just swap barrels. I used a Armson OEG but a Ultra-Dot could also be used. Necessity is the mother of invention. This setup was used for years, in Michigan's shotgun only zone, with great success. Since it's now used exclusively as a home defense/varment getter, I added the flashlight with forend switch and wiring.

Had an aimpoint on my 1187 hunting shotgun for turkey... tried it a few times and decided that I was just as good with my fiberoptic collimated front sight. The collimated sight ensures your cheek is down on the stock. Has worked for decades and not going to change anything unless I really need to.

My 870 has a standard pedestal mount for a bead, and thinking a xs big dot would be ideal for its use case.

it's no longer a shot gun if it has a sight on it.
plus your still using the rear sight you would have been using to begin with.

Now THAT is blasphemy.

I kinda agree on the shotgun thing but will say that when my father went blind in his right, dominant, eye putting a red dot with a mount that let him shoot right handed but left eyed kept him in the field. Did the same on a rifle for him. Shot quite a few turkeys and deer with those rigs. No way he could hunt any other way.

shotguns don't 'use' sights.

your eyes are the rear sight.
the target is the front sight.
I dont disagree.

Remember the old Weaver quick point from the '60's or early 70's?

I picked up a 410 "Turkey gun" and it had a small
Section of pic rail made for a small "red dot" optic. Its a dandy!
Id not choose this for wing shooting. But for use with buck shot or slugs. Lets face facts using a single projectile isnt "shotgun esq" either. Tactical buck shot or even turkey has the user closer to rifle then shotgun use.
This is my intent here.

You wont find a red dot on any of my doubles...

Use what works for you. I have a red dot, illuminated reticle or a laser on all but a few of my firearms and bows. Couple of other 12 gauges don't, unless you count a Trijicon front bead.

got a good buy on a 95 winchester cause someone put one of those red-dots on it.
the gun didn't come with the sight or mount though,,, just the holes.

Photo found on internet. Shows the mount that I used on my O/U. [type]
I use a Holosun Circle in a circle with shake awake.
No turning on, always ready.
I have dominate right eye with a stronger left eye.
Vision tents to get crossed up, till this improvement.
Right eye sees the dot, left eye cannot. Shoots straight!
