If it had a 4 in barrel I would be all over that. Much harder for me to get eat excited over a 3 in barrel but the idea is awesome.
Think of it as the M1A1 Abrams version of the CA Bulldog.

Maybe if it sells, Ruger would consider a 4" and a 6" version.

I sure hope so. I'm not looking for a carry gun so a little more barrel would be a good thing.
As a revolver the GP is hard to beat. Built like a tank, reliable, and plenty accurate. I really like mine.
A 44. Special GP is an excellent idea.

Couldn't have said it better.
Would be a reloaders dream revolver.
You could go from child mild to WILD with that one.

AND have a platform that would make the recoil manageable. The grip and weight would make it very shootable.

Will be interesting to see how the shooting public responds.
Large numbers have never bought the .44 Spec.
The round certain has its followers ( me being one of them ) , but the question is whether or not LARGE enough numbers of buyers will commit to the " concept " for Ruger to keep the assembly line cranking them out ? ?
Ruger is testing the waters.................

All I can think is that they see a market for concealed carry.

I sure hope it sticks around well enough for a 4-6" barrel version to come out. That I would buy.

This was leaked out at the time I started looking for a donor GP100 to convert to 10mm with moon clips. We've decided that a new barrel was necessary, turned from a blank (not a fan of reboring unless it's the only option) but the original cylinder could be rechambered. Now I have to re-examine my wants. I already have 44 dies and brass.

If the 44 Spl works out, perhaps Ruger will consider a 44 magnum version. That would be gnarly.

Maybe in a belt holster. The 2/12" Bulldog is too large for pocket carry. Part of the grip sticks out in my Mika pocket holster. My furniture (and wife) doesn't like IWB carry. o_O Wooden backed kitchen chairs were getting scratched. Weight and spurred hammer turns me off.

In 44 mag it could become a handful. Far better than the S&W mountain gun.

A 10 mm GP would be interesting. The barrel work would be interesting to see. Would they machine out a lug from the barrel blank, make one up to add on later, or just forgoe the lug?

I personally love 3" barreled revolvers. I think they look great.
Plus they carry much better on the belt when out working on the farm.

I've been wanting a .44 Special GP100 for long time. The 3" barrel is a plus in my book. Would prefer fixed sights in a carry gun, but 99% perfect is still pretty good. This is the first gun I've seen in a long time that makes me want to buy it. Would look great with my M24s, M624s, M296, and my Rossi five shot. Love those .44 Specials!

Don't need to hop them up to near Mag levels either. If a .45 ACP with 230 gr RN ball ammo will stop an aggressor 90% of the time, so will a .44 with a 250gr flat nose at the same velocity.

The folks over at Lipseys listen to what the consumer would like. If not for them Ruger may never have made those flat tops much less the 5 shot Bisley.

This happening because Lipseys is willing to take the financial risk. It has been said that a 5 or 6 version is in the works. What a great time for 44 fans !!

S&Ws M69 is a 5 shot 44 mag. "L" Frame, and seems to be holding up okay so far. Not perfect, but pretty well. I think the front of the frame was enlarged to keep it from cracking at the forcing cone.

My original plan was to skip the lug entirely. The GP already locks the cylinder in the frame at the front and rear. The barrel could also be profiled to suit me, and a non-locking half lug machined separately and attached with screws. I'd probably get as far as to buy the barrel blank, then have the original barrel rebored anyway. There are some really good guys doing this now. I probably wouldn't like it without the rib, either.
