Ruined mould ?

OK, I'll look at the other mold more closely. I just kept hearing good then bad, then
"the fixed it" and "mine is junk" on the Bator.... never really knew what was what.
Sounds like still a crap shoot so why not get a known good mold instead?

HMMM. The only mold that Lee makes in .22 cal for rifles (didn't look at handguns, but
probably nothing there) is called C225-55-RF, which MidSouth is calling the Bator mold.

One and the same or has the Bator name been attached to a different mold or what???

Ok, that is clearly nothing like the "Bator" mold that MidSouth is showing in their sales page, or
the C225-55RF that Lee shows (same image, a computer graphics thing, not a photo) on their
page.

Side by side. NOE 22-55 which tips in at 62 gr and the 22 Bator 50 gr ,straight WW 51gr the current 225-55 in the 6C is a "our version" of the RCBS 22-55 .

snip...
Anybody have a recent ".22 Bator" from MidSouth that they know has good dimensions and works
well?

Bill,
I had a discussion about this with a fellow at the other site. He had bought a 2 cav mold from Midsouth and kept calling it a bator, but when he shared Photo's, it was clearly the RCBS clone as Lee now offers as a stock mold.

If I were a bettin' man (and I am), I'd bet Midsouth's purchasing agent decided that a stock mold was the way to go, instead of a custom, due to price, cuz a 22 cal 55gr mold is a 22 cal 55gr mold, right?

Although, I could be wrong, and Lee just screwed up a shipment. When you look at midsouth's page
http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.c...or-point225-Diameter-2-Cavity-Mold-C225-55-RF
one of the images they include is a "drawing" of the Bator...NOT the RCBS clone...at least the measurements match my Bator Molds...except a couple of them that were way out of spec, and more suited for a .22 Savage High Power.

they show the RF but attached the Bator name to it in both of the mid-south links.

might just have been habit or the computer added it on.
heck maybe they done away with the old one.

Well the drawing looks like the Bator, but the computer "photo" looks like the Lee std
55 gr......

Not easy to know what they would actually send you.

Call them and get someone to go open a box. Unlike some of the bigger outfits, Midsouth has been very accommodating to me in the past in this respect.

I have reservations about the Lee 22-55 RF being an "RCBS 55-grain" copy, they are in fact only similar in weight, band diameter, and rounded lube groove. The length is very different due to RCBS having a thinner nose, the check shank, and lube groove radius are all different between the two. I prefer the Lee.

the bigger nose is a good idea.
it took me forever to lap my rcbs 2 cavity out to 219 at the base of the nose.
it was worth all the effort though, and is why the HM-2 mold was cut like it was.
