Savage 308 Win.

S Mac

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
I can think of lots of good reasons for shooting a conventional rifle at 50 yards. The one that comes to mind first is developing an accurate load for shooting small game with reduced loads in an otherwise overly powerful rifle. A perfect reason to use cast bullets over moderate powder charges.

When I first started casting I had a load for 308 Win, 4 grains of Red Dot and a Lee 113 bullet, several squirrels were harvested with that load with a single shot. Now that's fun in my book.

Savage puts their efforts in making a good barrel.
feed it a good bullet and you have the first 95% of the secret to an accurate rifle licked.

I have rifles and loads for various distances.
it doesn't really follow a pattern.
I have a milsurp or two set up for 300 yd gong shooting.
some sub-sonic loads for 50 yds.
loads that run at jacketed speeds that are accurate, and some that are just accurate enough for what I do with them.
I got some rifles that see only cast bullets and some rifles that see only jacketed bullets.
some of the jacketed bullets I make, some I buy at the store [shrug]

Hello gents,

I can attest to the savage's.
I had a mod 110 in 7mm Rem Mag and I called it the dog!
I never meant in poorly what I meant was it resembled was a junk yard dog. It ate everything and smiled while doing so!!!
Besides being very light and beating up the operator badly that thing would flat out shoot and it did not care what you fed it.
Everyone always made fun of me and said it was ugly until I warmed it up and retrieved the targets!
Then there jaws would hit the floor and not say another peep about my ugly savage :)
I also made a little money for more reloading supplies by telling people to put there money where there mouth was ;)
The absolute dumbest thing I ever did was trade it and a pile of money for a custom gun that was more fickle and shot about the same

Have a good day
Max

I love shooting plain based at 50....& most other distances where targets are present. It's how this suppressorless caster stays quite.
