I didn't want to step on Waco's thread so here is my newest deer rifle. Like i stated above it is a very good condition with little blueing wear or wood scratching. And i like the looks of the bolt handle.
I didn't want to put the customary side mount for a scope on it. So i asked my LGS if they could mount a weaver base on the front ring of the action. To make it a modified scout scope mount.
So these pictures are the after of mounting the base.
The only drawback to this rifle is that the throat is very short. I have to seat the bullets .04" deeper in the case than any of my other 30/30's. Yes i know there is a cure for that but i can only do 1 gunsmith project a year.

Check this site. A top mount for a full length scope. I have a new to me Savage 340C in 222 Rem. Put the Weaver side mount and scope on it to wring it out - some potential muzzle issues... IF I can get it to shoot well (may have to cut bbl/recrown bbl) I may look at having this top mount made.

I tried two other used mounts before I went to this on the 222. Only one that held the scope square.

I may look at having this top mount made.

They are not something you can just buy? I admit, I didn't read the article.
