Shop gauges

Making silencers means lots of concentric single point lathe threads; it is exceedingly helpful to have thread gauges that have been carefully made to spec and measured with the 3-wire method. Here's one for 5/8"-24 UNJ, class 3a.

Use it when making 30cal rifle cans. Can't see why tooling shouldn't be purty!

That certainly qualifies as purty. Very, very purty.

I too use thread wires. Never did buy thread mikes. Also, not everybody can produce properly formed knurling. Yours is the way it's supposed to look.

Thanks! I just wish I had a third hand sticking out of my chest every time I'm mic'ing the three wires.

There are many times where that third hand would be useful. Seems that reassembling almost anything needs three hands.

The three wire method is the way to go, that being said, the easiest method to hold the wires and not need three hands is a little dab of a tacky grease (clean) on the wires and use it as a glue to hold them in position while you mic over them. Now there are holding devices made for this procedure but grease does an excellent job and does not significantly alter any measurements.

Wow, I am really impressed with those gages. The knurling is amazing. What sort of tool
did you use for that? Surface finish is awesome, too.

Embarrassing to compare my crummy stuff.
