So, Where do you stand?

...The Winchester’92 just doesn’t look right with anything but irons on it.....

I've always viewed the 92 as one BIG step up from a revolver, especially when chambered for revolver cartridges, considering my intended use. The extra barrel length contributes to longer sight radius and more velocity, and is easier for me to steady. So, it's a little longer and a little heavier, but still handy and just made for fast target acquisition situations, where irons and red dots, even low powered scopes do their thing.

I say revolver because it's a repeater. I can (could?) shoot a revolver well at a hundred yards, but it's MUCH easier to shoot a short rifle/carbine AS well at a hundred yards. Hunting, personal protection, goofing off. If I'm serious about a head-shot on a squirrel at 75 yards, I'm going to be using something other than either of the previously mentioned.

The 92 isn't THAT much more cumbersome or heavy than a lot of revolvers firing the same rounds, but I have a friend who has handguns (single-shots) which weigh more than a bare-bones, 16" 92, or even one of my Contender carbines. Those are chambered for (no lie) 500 S&W, 284 W and 458 Lott. Those are scoped and not intended for uses where the 92 shines bright.

I am a purist with my Winchester leverguns. At 68 I can still make open irons work to hit a deer with to 125 yards. Aperture irons do even better.

With my Marlins and Henry I am a lot more amenable to glassware, though none of them wear it currently. "My name is Allen, and I have used scope sights on Marlin leverguns."

The Horror........

Open irons on handguns is my only system. EVERYTHING that I carry.......I can place all shots inside a B-27 8-ring at 15 yards without use of sights; at 7 yards all shots stay in the 9 ring.

Yes, I am a Luddite.

Luddites should stick together. Mr. Ludd got a bad rap.

Where necessary, appropriate and useful, most technology is great, but 99% of those who think they know technology do NOT and under or mis-utilize it badly.

My apologies if I've said this before, because I say it a lot, but like the old saying about fire - technology is a wonderful servant, but a horrible master.

This Sig Romeo 5 still sits on my desk as I type, because I'm up to my ears and don't have time to swap it out and zero it.

We have dot's on two lever rifles.... a Browning High Wall (jap) in .375 H&H and a Ruger #1 in 375 also. We use them for our river bottom "cat" guns if one ever decides it likes the smell of old me again.
But so far on a lever repeater my eyes do very well with receiver sights.

Last fall I killed a buck using the Redfield peep sight on my 38-55. This coming fall I want to use the FF3 that I’ve been playing with.
This is 3 shots at 40 yards as quick as I could place the dot and pull the trigger.IMG_1684.jpeg
I’ve had good vision for a long time; at 64 I only use readers.
The 94 is my only lever action anything, it was Dads gun. I’ve owned Marlins and Savage 99s, some scoped some not.
Anything bigger than a 32 mm objective scope looks wrong on them in my opinion.
All my mentors were scoped bolt action accuracy nuts so that’s the direction I took growing up.
My Remington 510, Nylon66, Krag, and this 94 are my iron sight guns (usually).

Heels like that have the advantage of increasing your field of vision.
Of course they must be a bear to run in.

Or somebody elses' vision! I did try Mom's high heels when I was about 5, wondered how she could walk.

Heels and women no problem (usually)
The 5th photo in CW's OP and the photo I posted, not much difference.
Each to his own, I may not completely understand some things......
