I understand there are folks from other countries on the site and I respect that, but one thing that bothers me, especially today is this hatred for America, most notably from within our own borders lately. Not that I really need the reminder, but we are the good guys in the world, make no mistake.

I work a truck gate for access control.......
We average 18 trucks per shift , 3 a day , 7 days . 5 in 20 or close to it are asian Indians or from points west known once as Persia . Another 1 of the 20 are some variety of Russian or Slovic . I tell you if I had to choose , and there's no race bait or malice involved here I'd rather stand next to the to the northern Asians than those of the others . They ooze contempt walk around cocked and locked almost like they're looking for an excuse . The Northern Asians mostly have a humble pride and hold themselves to a standard of communication that leaves them sometimes frustrated . The Persians etc are angry if you misunderstood them . The only way you'd know the Russians etc is by accent and they have a sense of humor. "Where am I from ? I raised in the Smokey Mountains in Georgia . You don't know my accent ? " Generally followed up with a big grin while you're trying to figure out how the Virginia famed mountains get to Georgia........ "Ural get it pret soon" .

22 yr ago today a piece of my soul was forever stolen away . As much as those little voices of moral compass do battle I strive to be professional and nonbiased . But sometimes it's really hard .

It's not that we the citizens and naturalized and in process citizens have changed it is that there are so many here that hate what we are and our history. We are still very much the great melting pot , it's just that it's not lead , tin , antimony any more it's fast becoming babbitt and we're getting to the point where we can't stir in much more lead free solder to keep the copper in solution .

Cheer your team , I wouldn't even hold a grudge if a guy jumped on the bar doing the victory dance if Mongolia hammered us in Olympic basketball. Look at soccer ...... For a moment everyone cheered for the the Jamaican bobsled team , they lost their placing but we're still the heros of the day .

I guess I'm just a deep rooted bitter Yank . I was raised by people that lived through the Spanish American, Philippine insurrection, WWI , Spanish flu , 1928-1931 , WWII (that were in Honolulu 12/7/41) , Korea, and Viet Nam . I never once knew them to hold any grudge or show any bias despite half of them being raised south of the Mason Dixson . Heck the day I was born my great Aunt , the one with a triage in her living room that Sunday morning in Honolulu, was in Wolfsburg picking colors for a brand new 1966 Karman Gia .

Maybe that's the problem with us Yanks . Maybe we have had so many "Rocky comebacks" and bought so many beers we couldn't drink for the bleeding teeth that we just don't know what revenge is anymore , we let the first punch land then we go find the ring leader and stomp em a new mud hole and dust off the hapless lakies wash them up give them a new suit and send them on their ways . It's catching up with us .

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Agree 100%, but we're not supposed to let our Stars and Stripes show here.

Russians do have a sense of humor. A lot of them I ran into were probably actually in the employ of some real shady characters, but they had a kind of "whatever" and a smile attitude about the whole thing. I actually had to sort of educate the guys at our local POE, the Homeland guys, that when you saw stainless steel dental wear, that was most likely a guy from the former USSR. Funny they didn't catch that.

We built LSTs in Evansville during WWII. Here is a link to the one we have moored in the downtown area.

I've taken the tour and kicked in a few bucks but never got involved in any of the activities (giving tours, maintenance, etc).

I know that the maintenance is constant and ongoing and the support cost, even with volunteers doing a lot of the work, is pretty high. Every piece of metal on a ship wants to return to ore.

Been on the 325. Very cool boat. And was still sailing/touring cpl yrs ago before Covid screwed that up. Hopefully it will recover and sail again.

Yeah, .303 would seem likely, but they were chambered in several good calibers. Can't remember exactly when the .300 Save was introduced, but it was around by 1930. The .250, .25-35, and even .30-30 are possibilities too. I have one that looks like that in .32-40.

300 Savage was introduced in 1920, concurrently with the 1920 bolt action rifle and upgraded model 99.

It was considered an elk and moose rifle with 150 grain bullet at reported 2700 f/s.
