Somebody please explain...

I'm okay with it. Not everything is to my personal taste, but I rarely find anything that is. I get the Pic rail, and the non-reflective finishes. I understand why some people like big loop levers, at least it's not as big as Winchesters are. I think the furniture is wood, just painted black. It appears to be set up for a suppressor, which is gaining in popularity. I wouldn't pay anywhere near that price for it though.

Jeff Cooper once promoted a similar setup (with natural wood finish) as a viable alternative to semi-auto carbines in areas behind enemy lines. His preferred caliber was 357 Magnum with long magazine tubes, and he nicknamed them "Brooklyn Specials".

Just read this AM, that someone on the other site, picked one up in 357, when the first were introduced.........$900, IIRC. He stated he had no issues and was happy with his Rem-Lin purchase.

People are welcome to own any firearm they wish. Just don’t ask me to fawn over it .

I can appreciate the desire to have a firearm specific to a certain use. My guns are largely for range use so I purchase accordingly. That said I don’t baby them and I don’t own a gun I wouldn’t take into the field when appropriate. Honest wear and tear don’t bother me. My 270 has a hunk of wood missing where it rubbed on a buckle when in a scabbard on a horse. I don’t see a defect, I see a memory.

I've mentioned before about the local spray-and-pray black rifle shooters. While I may wonder about the why of all the accouterments they've tacked onto their rifles, and why they consider a 12" 50-yard pattern acceptable, at least they are participating in a centuries-old American tradition and increasing the number of California firearm owners.

Too, they may wonder about this pre-geezer who shows up with his assortment of rifles and handguns that were designed and/or produced in the middle to the latter part of the 19th century.

Despite all that, that rifle is ugly and overpriced.

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
Like I said, to each their own. My boys cannot grasp the appeal I find in my old FR8 Mauser or the '93 7x57 in it's pretty much unfinished Bishop stock. They don't get why I'd want any rifle without a scope. They darn sure don't get why I'm fond of the old Stevens Favorite. To each their own! I don't WANT an AR, but I'd take one just to PO certain people of an elevated status politically! ;)

That was my reason for getting a C&R license. The state finally got wise and re-wrote some laws that make it more difficult and expensive for me to have a qualifying rifle delivered to the front door, and completely eliminated the handgun aspect. Still, I renew it every three years. There is no small amount of satisfaction in poking Sacramento in the eye.

It took a bit of time for Glocks and new-pattern rifles to 'grow' on me, perhaps this sort of creation could do likewise. It will take some time. My principal objection is to its pricing, which seems about 3X its actual value or more.

I never had a NEED for anything to "hang more junk" on an already heavy rifle .
I hunted hogs after dark and putzed around with assorted Varmint lights 2 trips . The 3rd trip I begrudgingly used a 3rd ring light , after the 1st hunt I decided that a dedicated rifle should absolutely have at least room to hook at least you one rail mounted doohickey .

It's been done for decades . Lots of hunters shot rifles with Irons , then mounted and optic and left the irons in place . I've even seen one with a peep sight mounted under the scope on the rear base in addition to a scope and irons .

Of course they look stupid with 18 bangles hanging all over them .....

If you're going SS/paint/ceramic coating on a lever gun with a not wood stock anyway , they don't really look bad with the slotted tube forend .

I don't have or want a black AR-15. Don't even purchase SR primers. Do own a green AR-10, purchased, when Clinton wanted to keep semi auto's rifles out of our hands. Just because.
