Here are some photos of my new .22lr rifle. I wish I could do photos as well as Ben and JW, but it is what it is, the best I could do.

It has a Schnabel, and I love Schnabels, but it didn't show up well with my poor photography. I wish I could have done better because it really is a beautiful rifle.

I tried to get a picture of the reticle of the scope but I couldn't get anything of value.

I took it to the range to see if I had any ammo that it liked. I had Aguila 40gr Super Extra Copper Plated, Fiocchi 40gr CPSP High Velocity, and CCI 40gr Lead Round Nose Standard Velocity Target.

It liked the CCI ammo best. At 50 yards I got 0.60" groups. I'd say that is about "minute of squirrel head".

In regard to the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 X 24 scope, it has a reticle designed for rapid target acquisition probably for AR type rifles. The aim point is a dot. Probably 2 MOA, but I am guessing there. Below the dot there is a vertical line with horizontal stadia lines. With a 50 yard zero the second line down from the dot is right on for 100 yards with the standard velocity CCI load.

That is a beautiful rifle Rocky, gorgeous wood. Darn thing has the bolt handle on the wrong side though. Pity.

Sorry about that Rick, but it works for me just the way it is.
The barrel is threaded and I have bought a silencer for it, just waiting to unwrap all the red tape.

Works well from the bench though, just not in the field.

I really like the finish and color of the wood. One thing I don't like about my Kimber (aside from the bolt being in the wrong side!) is the 1970s standard cheap furniture brown stain and figureless stock.

I picked up a CZ 455 in 22LR last year and shot under 3/4" at 50, but opened out more then is expected at 100. Need to try some other brands of ammo when it's back in stock. I was shooting Federal brand in the red box. Have some old Blazer and Remington. Have to get the CZ out today and rifle through my various brands of ammo and see what happens.

This CZ is a nice stocked clean rifle, but your Zephyr is just plan sweet.

I not warm and fuzzy about the reticle your describing but that seems to be the only choice in that power scope. At least for the brands I've run across. The Vortex, and the Athlon makes 1x6,8,10 power scopes, really like the power level, but would prefer options with the reticle department. Very used to the multi-plex with just thin crosshairs. I have a 2x12 Athlon with a 1" tube, very nice, reasonable price. It might look to dominate on the little CZ though.

Went and looked at what was on the shelf for 22 assortment. Found some subsonic RWS and Aguila, also a brick of CCI shorts. There's a couple other brands I forgot about. Sounds like I need to get rid of this stuff one at a time.

John, I probably would have gotten a CZ if there had been one available, but there is slim pickings right now. Only the most expensive brands left on the shelves.

Rocky, I don't know what the cost was for the Zephyr, but apparently you can afford it, so you did nicely in my book. I would have liked to have the conundrum of choosing between the 2. Probably would have bought both.

I am a member of a local gun club with a FFL so I got a discount on the rifle which usually costs $1000 give or take a few $. I saved a hundred or so there.
I got the scope from SWFA's Samplelist. It was a "Demo C", a demo showing some wear. It retailed for $399, I got it for $280.

Our gun club range consists of a covered firing line with a short range side with a 10 yard bullet trap for handguns only and a 50 yard berm with fixed target frames at 25 and 50 yards and movable frames for any range from 1 to 50 yards.
The long range side has berms at 100, 200, and 300 yards with target frames and swinging steel targets. The firing line has bench rest benches and prone platforms.

I am retired so if I go up there during working hours it is like it is my own private club. I am usually the only one there.

The initiation fee is a little steep at $600, but the annual fee of $100 is very reasonable. The local public ranges cost from $10 a visit and up.

My "range fees" run over $5000/year, and I have to do all the maintenance and improvements myself, but the owner is ok and I always have the place to myself 24/7/365. Plus it's a 40-yard walk from my front door.
And the guy who owns it is a jerk?

Yeah I like have my range beside the shop and behind my house. Have to go up eight steps though.

At pushing a thousand and I would have only come home with one.

Yes, your range is truly private.

There are two public ranges in addition to my club range available in my area, but each one is 25 miles +/- away.
So, 40 yards away and truly private, Ian, you got it good.
