Sure Wish I Was Home In Mountain Home

All things in moderation...sounds good. We hit around 82 today, nice day, back on the mower
after the leg is back up to speed.

Mtn Home does seem like a nice place, Smokeywolf. And as far as LA traffic, I have driven in it
enough to try to avoid it as much as possible. The KC area has one of the best ratios of
interstate/freeway miles per person in the nation, so normally pretty easy to move around town.
The place is fairly big as a whole metro area, probably 35 miles as the crow flies across the metro,
but you can go from one end to the other max of 40-45 minutes, most normal trips are 15-20
minutes. Hard to get used to wasting so much time in traffic, don't like it.

it was 50-f at 8:30 this morning.
it was about 80 at noon and I quit Painting Littlegirls house and fired up her BBQ grill to make lunch.
then I hung out till about 5 and it was 85 when I left to go watch the stock pond in case it was invaded by a couple of doves.
it was 62 or so when the sun went down making it super nice to sit outside and clean a few birds.
we will drop down into the high 60's next week I bet.

Sounds great Lamar. Wouldn't complain a bit about that weather. But, after about 5 years of study, Mrs. smokeywolf is pretty much set on Mountain Home and she's the most rational, level-headed female I've ever met.

which Mountain Home?
we got one of those here too, only there summer weather is a bit warmer and they don't get quite as much snow fall or near as cold in the winter.

trust me I was complaining at 80.
I went and got out a beach umbrella and rigged up a chair and a cinderblock deal so I could finish cutting in corners in some shade.

Got one about 25 miles NW of here too, 78058. I know half the town by first name.

This one is in N. Central Arkansas, about 15 minute drive from the MO state line. Right between the twin lakes of Norfork and Bullshoals.

I was in ft smith very briefly this spring. It was Sunday & most everything was closed. We seen lots of bikers, crackheads, & cops. I doubt I'll be returning soon.

Mountain Home, AR

AR has the economic and political environment, sporting opportunities and medical services on our list. Also, good schools that should suit our younger son and maybe someday, some grand children. On top of that, our oldest son is a short day's drive away. Very much looking forward to having him come home to Mountain Home for the holidays.

Only thing I'm sweatin' about the move is, moving the shop. YIKES!

That safe came out of a Wells Fargo Office in a ghost town in the middle of the NV desert in the latter half of the 1950s. Have already cleaned up and organized some of the junk behind the safe.

About an hour ago, it was 94 degrees here and raining pretty hard accompanied by lightening and thunder. Rain only lasted about 30 minutes, but hopefully helped the fire companies dealing with the Sunland-Tujunga fire.

This is the first I've heard of the fire. This is not good, the fires location is quite close to Little Tujunga Canyon Rd, the location of LASC. This is Labor Day weekend and the Extravaganza of Silhouette is under way. There are People from all over the country that camp at the range for the entire 4 days of the event. If the fire makes it over the hill and they close the road could be big trouble including cancelling the event to get everybody out. I've been googling L.A. County Fire but can't find out yet which way the fire is heading. I'm gonna make some phone calls to see what I can learn but there is no cell service at the range.

KTLA channel 5 has a couple of video's up. At the moment it appears not to be heading towards the range but it's only just a few miles of solid fuel from where the fire currently is. On the other hand the fire is Santa Anna driven, not gonna be much of a match with winds like that. Haven't gotten anyone on the phone yet.

Perhaps in Ojai. I would be willing to bet not where the fire is and blowing through the canyons into the SF Valley, they don't even call them Santa Anna winds until they top 50 mph.

I'm not in or near Ojai. We're pretty close to the Santa Suzanna Pass area and very familiar with the Santa Ana Winds.

EDIT:
Wind gusts right now are probably not exceeding 30 mph.

My daughter visited LA this summer for a wedding. She said she doesn't foresee going back. She wasn't impressed with a place where it takes 45-60 minutes to get anywhere. Being from a city where everything is within 30 minutes or less it was a shock. She also said at least Chicago has a decent subway system.
One stoplight and one yellow caution light on Main street. That's it for the whole town. A friend commented the other day how annoyed he was when he had to wait for a string of three cars before he could make a left turn! A trip across town to Ace Hardware is about a four minute drive including the time I sit in the driveway and make sure the door goes down before taking off. Thirty years of Las Vegas traffic helped me make my small town retirement decision.
