Just the piece he already chewed into. Good one Brad. Actually a big rat trap with a cotton ball attached to the trigger. SNAP!!

One down, millions to go. Around here we have problems with squirrels chewing on vehicle wiring. It's pretty profitable at work after a long winter.

Ditto here, Bob. Fixed this one on Friday:

It had actually been repaired before by another one of our techs (he put heater hose over the loom to help prevent recurrence but it didn't work at all). Lady who owns the car said her dog chased her cat under there (both times) and one of them chews the wires.

I had to unplug about 362 connectors and fish the harness out the top to do surgery. Five wires had to be sectioned and spliced in the main harness, plus both knock sensor wires and the main crank wire to the starter solenoid.

Squirrels and packrats around here.
Lots of people leave the hood up.
The wife brought a box of moth balls home to put in the engine compartment.
Told her ...... Must be a crappy job collecting moth balls. How do they get there legs apart?

A portion of our business is changing hydraylic hoses in booms of "tree" bucket trucks from "SQUIRREL DAMAGE". Costs the owders many thousands of dollars.

Yup I love the lil bastards. :embarrassed: :p

We had a shuttle bus towed in earlier this year that squirrels had chewed some wires off flush with one of the more expensive electronic modules under the hood, then the squirrels built a rather large nest under the doghouse at the very rear. Big nest, very big. Their babies had been eating really well over the winter and early spring. Lotsa damage.

I think it's $135 or thereabouts. It varies depending on who is paying the bill (warranty, service contract, customer, insurance, etc.)

if we could only make the plastic poisonous if eaten....and a lot of the new "biodegradable" plastic is plant based.....

The fact that an old rusty Rat Trap with a $2.49 price label stopped the perp is gratifying, on the other hand the $327 repair bill wasn't. Parts was $50.86, the rest labor.

My brother was an old school Auto Mechanic.
You got be auto mechanic, computer programmer, plumber, electrician, computer hacker and Clairvoyant to work on the new cars these days.
Not to mention a knowledge base of all the diagnostic machines and tool required. Not to mention the thousands of dollars they have to spend on their own personal tools.
It's not just turning a wrench these days.
Worth every penny they charge!

I've had problems in the past where they just lick the peanut butter off the triggers without ever tripping the traps.
Does cotton balls work better?

Squirrels cost the electric companies a lot of money too. I hate the little bastards... Yeah, I work for an electric company. :)
