I find myself looking at a new caliber.
Let me back up. I really like the 6.5 Grendel. I have had an AR and still have a Howa Mini Bolt.
It being one of my most accurate rifles helps.
Being that I shot my biggest Bodied and Racked bucks doesn't hurt.
Last year I decided to tear it down and rebuild as what it should be. A LWT hunter. I changed bottom
Metal and optic. Its my favorite deer rifle.
Making it left me with a good amount of accessory parts. I had a Boyds Target Lam stock. A 20MOA, EGW pic base and DIP Bottom Metal with magazine latch upgrade and four magazines. (I also have a good optic.)
So, I have been considering a Brownells barreled action. In 20" HB 6.5 Grendel. Making a "target" gun. For about 400$, I can have this rifle all setup.
A Few days ago, I was talking to a new hunter trying to decide on a caliber and rifle. We talked about quite a few rifles and Cartritages. He wanted a AR and because of a bad accident had rebuilt shoulders and collar bones. He cannot tolerate recoil so needs light recoil and wants as much preformance he can muster. All things considered, My suggestion to him is 6.5 Grendel.
We also spoke about the 300 blk, 7.62x39, 350 Legend, 6.8 SPC, 277 Wolverine, 25/45 Sharps and 6mm ARC. (22 CF's are not legal here for deer)
This talk opened my eyes to the ARC. I had dismissed it. But looking "threw his eyes" and listening to some Hornady PodCasts the last couple
Days. Man Im pretty much sold! Largly because I have decided to make a purchase to utilize my parts. My stock is for a Howa Mini so thats what it's gonna be. Howa is factory chambering the 6.5 Grendel, 6 ARC, 223, 7.62x39, 350 Legend and 300 blk.
For my purposes, this will be a Target/Hunter. My initial thoughts where medium range. But unlike the Grendel, this ARC with heaviest bullets is gaining much respect out to and past 1000 yards. Surprising to me. IINM its twisted 1:7.5.
Has anyone here shot or own one of these?
