The gift of lead

Alaska Land of the Midnight Sun
Well I been wanting to thank a friend on here for a while for gifting me with a bunch of soft, close to pure lead. Mike N had a bunch of lead sheeting from an X-Ray room or something and he said he's not casting anymore and was tired of moving it and tripping over it and wanted it out of his way. Unfortunately he made me come pick it up. Couldn't get Mike to deliver it. Had to try.
Well took my trailer over which would be easier to load than my pickup. I also could leave it in the trailer while I figured out where to put it so I could trip over and move it around.
Well then Ben started his "A nice friend" and Mitty's "Sawzall" thread reminded me about Mike N's generosity.
Back to the trailer and doing something with the lead. Rolled or folded the lead some and put each piece on the side boards of the trailer and attacked with the sawzall. Cut each torn up sheet into 8 or 9 inch wide pieces and rolled them up tighter with the help of a 4 pound wholloper as my Kiwi friend used say. They are now in a size that will fit in my cast iron smelting pan.

Lot of air space, but heavy each one, not sure how much, but will smelt down to ingots this winter and count them rather then weigh these milk crates.
On a side note Mike N sent me a PM yesterday saying he was thinking of getting back into cast for a couple of rifles he has. Well I will be able to help him with some soft ingots and some harder alloy to blend in.

Sept. 10, 2021 Steve left us. You are missed.
Maybe he will have to make the trip for ingots and a cup of coffee. ;)

I think that I was the one blessed by getting the chance to meet John and talk for a short while. He certainly is very knowledgeable and has lots of Alaskan experience. Great guy, and we're only about 20 miles apart.
