They gotta eat

Spent a couple hours casting today. I had a severe shortage of a couple bullets on hand and the rifles were going hungry.

Now I have a few hundred of the NOE 311 230 for the 300 BLK and NOE 375449 plain base for the 375 Winchester.
The 311 230 took longer as it is a plain base. Good thing is that mould over heating is never an issue. The 375449 is a 5 cav and it needs a slower pace or it over heats. I tend to cut the sprue as soon as it sets then wait a 5 count to drop the bullets. The pause is with the mould sitting in front of a fan.

274 for the 300 BLK and 366 for the 375 Win. Should hold me for a while for the 375 Win but the 300 can eat those up in a hurry.

They are weird in the berm. They bend easily but don't break. I find little lead horseshoes all day long.
I need to try a few at 100 on my steel plate. They are subsonic but I bet they hit it plenty hard.

I got my new RAR300BLK back and it's working like it should!

My first test loads will be with some of the NOE 230's you sent me Brad.

Refresh my memory......how much 4227 were you running in these? 10gr????

10 gr is a good load. I went up to 10.2 but went back to 10. Should run 1050 fps or so. Nice to not have the load crack.

In your opinion, where would be a good place to start with my PB NOE 30 Hunter? 190gr?
I want to keep this one a sub as well. 8gr?

How long is the bullet and what is the COL? Let me see what QL says. I don't know how well 4227 will burn with that light a bullet and charge.
Most of the subs are with heavy bullets, hence the 230s.
I have run a 175 with 1680 up to 1700 fps.

Have you ever walked into your loading room and found that your 300 Blackout had turned into one of these?

Nope but I have had a couple of weekends that I was sure a couple of pistols had done that ......

I liked the 1 with Jack Nicholson better .

I have run the 4227 down to 10grs with 200gr bullets.
with a 190 gr boolit I'd try 9gs and a couple of different primers, 4227 will let you know right quick if it isn't burning efficiently.

With 300 BLK subsonic loads, it seems like every powder I try needs 9.5-10.0 for 220 SMKs.
Probably similar with cast, but I think that the cast have lower friction coefficient, so maybe
even less needed.

H110 and WC820 (similar to AA9, but not the same) seem to work best for me to cycle yet
avoid the crack.
