Thinking about a 358 Win

Why not reline it in the same caliber. I believe John Tailor in Washington can do that for you

I think there are pressure limits on a reline. Cast loads wouldn't bother it, but down the line somebody else would probably run jacketed bullets through it.

One problem is the .270 chamber length compared to the .358. You may have to go .35 Whelen. The .358 is a wonderful cartridge; get the RCBS or Lee 200 gr gas check flat nose gas check for hunting, any .358" plain base for low velocity play.As mentioned above the 225 Sierra is perfect for the longer shots on game. Mine was a 1965 Remington 700 .243 that JES carved 3 rifling grooves in and it was perfect! I only let it go because our "big game" in North Texas tops out at rare 350# pigs.....:)

Rushcreek your right about the 270 being to long for the 358, but it's perfect for the Whelen!! Just more cartridge. I like just about anything 35 caliber.
I had Redmen rebore a Winchester Featherweight to 35 Whelen, it was the only reasonable cure for the rifle being a 270. That was before the Whelen was bonafide factory cartridge. Ok Ok, it wasn't a pre 64 Featherweight.
