Oh my. Heights don't bother me to a point, that would be above that point.

Hell of a view. I have been up like that on mountains.....but I had a rope to a number of belay points.
I am OK with heights, as long as I am "on belay". Otherwise, NOPE, not doing it.

Walking over a 500 ft cliff the first time, backwards for rappelling is pretty infimidating. Eventually
you get used to it.

An ironworker friend explained it this way. "Would you be afraid of walking on a 2x6 laid flat on your driveway?"
Me, "No". Him. "Are you going to fall off of it?" Me,"Well, not likely."

Him, "OK, make it a 8" wide I-beam and it is even easier. But put it 4 stories up and folks freak out."

OK, got it.

I still want a belay.

No crazy liability lawyers in those days. You fall, your fault. So sad.

"Just another day at work".

I've spent weeks at a time up in high places.... lots of church work.Big high sanctuaries. It's tiring because, and this is hard to explain but..... even though you get used to it and past the whole fear thing....

Every step, every move has consequences, most of which...aren't good. So by the end if the day you're whipped from mental as well as physical exhaustion. I will say,we used to abuse newbs pretty bad. You can instantly tell when a guy just isn't comfortable,up there. We'd catch them down lower, and with safety..... can't be hurting anyone..... but the best trick is to get below them and lift,UP on the scaffolding. They'd about pee their pants. Only have to do it a 1/2 dz times before they start paying more attention, which leads to the concentration required.....

I was a roofer for a period of time years ago, I could sit a fairly steep roof. I noticed that any time my palms started sweating I would start slipping. Yeah, got to pay attention, no daydreaming.

No Way !! Repelling wasn't a problem, I had something to hold onto and it was anchored in some way. Free standing - no way.

Somebody already tried the 2x6 on the driveway logic with me to prove it's only a mind game. I ain't buying it. The wind doesn't gust to 50 mph in my driveway very often.

Read somewhere that in those days the estimate was 1 death per million dollars of construction cost.
Can’t imagine telling people that today.
