Did meatloaf last night.
Mix of equal parts (1lb.) ground 93/7 beef, pork, bison. Add some freeze-dried garlic and onion flakes, black pepper, 3 pinches ground chipotle pepper, 2 pinches ground ancho, 1/4 of pouch onion soup/dip mix, 3 eggs, 2 tsp sesame oil, 1-1/4 cup panko (bread crumbs).
Threw it in a rectangular Pyrex and grilled/smoked (indirect heat) in the Kamado at 280 degrees.

Best meatloaf I've ever done.

the wife done up the egg plants I brought in, I think the summer squash sitting on the counter got her attention.... LOL.
I found a little extra head of cauliflower I didn't know was out there today when I was cutting the leaves off the other plants I've already picked, so that got cut up and served cold.
I ate so much egg plant, and cauliflower, plus some of the macaroni salad?? I didn't have room for any of the chicken she made.

I have quite a few beefstake tomatoes on now.
Have my eye on 3 of them getting pretty big.
Plan on grabbing them just when they start to turn a little light, the moment right before they start ripen up.
Will be ready for a plate of fried green tomatoes before long.

my maters are taller than I am and you can see spots where they grew about 8"s all at once.
they are just starting to put blooms on though, and will probably get at least 8' tall If I keep the heat on them through September and October.
that's when I get my tomatoes.

Didn't plan on anything special for Labor Day ( hoping it was going to be quiet) However My wife's tenant next door came over with a back pack of country style pork ribs and asked... can we fix them for a Labor day Supper?....Hey, Free meat! Sure .... my wife made up the dry rub and rubbed them down and put them in foil and put them in the kitchen oven for 3 hours at 220 deg.
Got the Weber Charcoal grill going with hardwood lump charcoal at 5 pm asked him to finish them off on the grill using it with radiant heat!
After all, he has been all around the country his whole life as a chef...and was one of the top chefs at a famous New Orleans Restaurant Pub Charles, until Katrina hit! So he finished them off on my grill like a pro with 4 different bastes he made! Absolutely excellent!
I know I ate too much but heck...I found out this morning at my weigh in I lost 2 more pounds! I'm down to 152 Lbs.... where I was 20 years ago!
I finally realized Hamm's and Red wine were not the problem!

No Hamm's here since Viet Nam either. However, stop eating anything white and you lose weight; lost 22 pounds in 14 weeks. Old Overholt Rye and red wine are on the menu.

Ric,
I think Hamm's was 20-cents in paper scrip in the Airmans' Club and 25-cents in the NCO Club. Highway robbery!
Problem was getting the sweat and humidity dampened scrip separated.

Tried to take a pick but wife's phone is terrible at night.
Sitting by the pond, line in the water. Gas lantern died, do not care. Son by my side.
Going by feel for the fish any way. Fire behind me for light. Survival radio for music and extra light when needed.
Catching nothing but mud cats but that is ok.
Wife is at the fire roasting hot dogs.

Cheating Airmen. Hamm’s $.10 a can same as pack of Winston’s at PX. However only got to PX three times in tour. Paid supply Sargent 2X to put on chopper for resupply missions.

We did pork baby back ribs on the grill, with a chili and dried tomato rub and topped with Dave's Sweet and Spicy sauce. Didn't have to add any smoke, as the fire west of us has enough smoke in the air.

The Hamm's drift aside, I grilled a teriyaki marinated tri-tip.
