looks like we lost Burt Reynolds today.
he made some watchable and some memorable movies [nuthin Oscar worthy whatever that is] but I'm sure he managed to pay the bills, and he was entertaining.
watching his earlier stuff [like when he was on gun-smoke] I never seen anything "big star" about him, but I think he knew that and accepted the roles he could handle.
amusing without trying to be funny, serious without trying for too much drama, and borderline ridiculous when the situation called for it.
pretty good,,, pretty damn good.

Wife and I watched Smokey and the Bandit last weekend. What a great movie.

Anyone else know who his college roommate was?

I always associated Burt with the CB radio craze of the pre-cell phone/internet era. Remember his pinup?

At the casting bench in the sky. RIP Bret.
I liked Burt in "Gunsmoke" too. I agree, I didn't see any super star stuff then, but like Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates, I think it may have been more "heart throb" stuff than sheer acting ability. Worked for the females too. Let's face it, Raquel couldn't act at all, but she was well known too.

He made some funny flicks and a few good ones too.

We are currently running through the old Gunsmoke shows. Burt is in a lot of them, probably about
his first acting job. I read that he was fired from Gunsmoke and Clint Eastwood was fired off of Rawhide
the same day. They had told Burt that he couldn't act. As they walked out together, Clint asked Burt what
happened, and found out they told Clint the same thing. Burt said "I'm going to go take acting lessons."

I thought he was fine on Gunsmoke, and Clint was fine on Rawhide. Shame to lose them, but nothing lasts
forever.

he played football at FSU.

Raquel was actually horrible in many of her roles, but there was one or two that fit her pretty well.

I hitch hiked from South Ga, to FSU for a game
back in the dark ages. Watched him play, but
it was just another game, good game though.
