Well . . . They got me!

I got a letter two months ago.
I was able to "file" via interwebs.
My 3 or 4 month on-call duty started Jan 2 2020, I believe?
I haven't been called yet.

I've only been enlisted once before, about a decade or two, ago. I only got called once, but that case was settled before I needed to appear for interviewing, so I lucked out on that deal, because I wasn't really wanting to serve...missing work and all.

Now that I am retired, I kind of hope I get called and put on a jury. The courthouse is only 7 blocks away from my house :)

I was called once, at the court house after they explained the selection process they asked if there were any questions. I didn't have a question but let them know that I was having trouble hearing them. They got rid of me.

I'm in favor of capital punishment in theory. In practice it's so expensive and so loaded with BS that I believe it impractical in these times. It should be just the other way around, but it's not. So I'm a big proponent of life w/o the possibility of parole. However, I live in a state where "life" often means something other than a long period of decades.

Don't think that would work out too well here. It says right on the form they sent that if your hearing impaired they have devices for the jurors. It also says at no cost to the users. Doesn't say what the device is but I assume headphones, ear plugs or some such.

I thought about using hearing aid aided hearing as an excuse, then read the court supplies some sort to hearing enhancement device.
Both defendants, in the cases I was excused from, were wearing headphones, but not because they were hearing impaired . . .

I have served on two, a DUI and a wrongfull dismissal. i have been called and excused for the local county court, I knew the family well who had been threatened, and am on call for the season from Sept 1 to Aug 31.
The wrongfull dismissal was a lot of fun. 5 days long and I learned a lot about what goes on in a car dealership. We agreed that the person should have been dismissed and voted to have her restore $600 of wages she penciled in on her wage card.

I kinda like it when a whiner gets the tables turned on them. I bet there aren't 1% of the wrongful dismissal suits that are truly legitimate.

shockingly, NEVER been called to jury duty. Witness once, witness/aggrieved party to break-in twice (nothing came of it). The witness one was for a flasher! Long story, I was asked to ID him as a neighbor - and he wasn't - but was staying with the neighbor. Funniest part was, female DA; victim showed up dressed like a cootchie. Female DA 'bout lost her mind! Sent the chic home to dress WAY way down, like in a feed sack! Other funny aspect was fellow Army officer/friend of mine's husband was the cop - and poor bastard had to 'present the evidence' found on the flasher! He carried the brown paper bag into the courtroom at full arm's length, wearing rubber gloves. It was a hoot!

I figure the ABN mentality - "Kill them all and let God sort them out" will preclude me from ever actually serving!
