What Did You Shoot Today?

Shot my Rem 722 in 300BO, Ruger American in 350 Legend and then CZ75 in 40SW.

Shot 5 shots standing to get the Remington warmed up, then, from the bench, shot a 10 shot group at 50 yards with the Saeco 315 and 12.5gr of WC820. The Saeco 301 didn't do as well. Then I shot the Ruger American using the plain base Lyman 35875 and 12gr of AA7.

The Saeco 315 and the Lyman 35875

This morning it was the box-stock Ruger .223 American.
Sierra 69-grain HPBT MatchKing
25.0-grains of BL-C(2)
Winchester standard large primers
Mueller 8.5-25X44
100-yards

The first shot was high (clean and cold barrel), the next four shots grouped .309" North/South .170" East/West.
I'm happy.

No picture, but finalized a load for the Pedersoli .45-70 rolling block and the newly acquired and gas checked RCBS 45-405 (thank you, Jon!) with 26.0-grains of Accurate 5744. I'll load as many as the remaining powder will allow, then develop a load using 2400 or Unique. Some day might do a shoot-off with the RCBS and the Lyman 457193. Might do a shoot-off with the original post-and-ball sight and the Lyman globe with various circular inserts, too.

worked up loads and shot in Ruger gp100 .357 mag158g JHP and Ruger Bisley 45colt 300g cast/powder coated. Loaded some max loads in both with H110. ( because my son likes them that way!) They shot fairly well. Oh yea, I picked up 20.5 lbs of brass while out there. Took about 40 minutes. I'm stupid I guess. 68 yrs old and still crawling around on my hands and knees picking up brass. Am I the only one I wonder? Just can't seem to pass up brass when it is piled up and easy pickin's. Also said I would never do it but just ordered a FA wet tumbler because a lot of these had a lot of dirt in them. And I needed a new toy.

CVA BO, 3 vmax, GC & PB. Vmax shot LOW (gotta pull one and see what the load is ?), GC did OK, PB all over. Alloy/load problem. M60 Marlin, light breeze, 50 yds. My bagged vs offhand were about the same except for the ones I pulled. Blaser bulk ammo. Sure noticed the breathing thing today, need more practice. Did some target acquire like moving animal practice off hand.
EDit: pulled the vmax, 18 gr Lilgun. 145 cast 15 gr 4227 (1700 fps). Time for a new scope to check it. It's a return Vortex, can't justify the rising (4") POI for slower bullets. Started with clean bore and no visual leading, PB just too hot. Not recoil or time-in-barrel.

It's all fun!!!
That it is. However, I have to say that, even after all the years I've owned the rifle, the above mentioned .45-70 Pedersoli rolling block has been and remains my most hoot to shoot rifle

Grey, cold and windy today, but buddy Joe and I went out to shoot pistols for a while. Shot the S&W 32 WCF Target and the #5 44 Special.

The 10 32 WCF loads were the 100 grain WW factory bullet over 3.5 grains of Bullseye, fired two handed at the 50 foot slow fire target. The gun didn't like that load at all and the hands were cold didn't help. Five 44 Special loads were a Cramer 240 grain full wadcutter over 5.0 grains of Bullseye. But fired one handed over the top of the first 10 32's. Happy with my shooting with the #5.

Shot 3 rounds of 44 mag loaded with old shot capsule that I got at a gun show...
5 grains of unique, a 44 felt BP wad & a good crimp
Made 17 that is what I had....

They go bang & make lots of tiny holes in cardboard at 10 or 12 ft !!

I still have a dozen or so Speer 38 special shot/snake loads. I had high hopes of using them on a big rattlesnake when we stopped for 3 days in Western N. Dakota to shoot prairie dogs. I had my heart set on a snakeskin. It turned out we had a great time shooting prairie dogs but didn't see a single snake.

One of the great things about a revolver is how easily they handle all sorts of ammunition.

Hahahaha, in classic screw up fashion. I was on a Wyoming antelope/mule deer hunt. We set up a wall tent way back up the mountain at the Miracle Mile Ranch.
One afternoon my friend Andy says, "Hey there's a nice fat cottontail out here, one of you guys with a pistol come shoot it and I'll cook it." I grabbed my S&W Kit Gun and Chris, Andy's son, grabbed his .41 mag. Black Hawk. I lined up on the bunny about 15 yards away hiding under a sage brush shot and missed. Chris shot and basically decapitated the rabbit. I opened my cylinder to replace my fired round and there was the empty, .22 bird shot that I had loaded first round up "in case" I saw a rattler.

Yes it did !! It was bought for a 444 that never happened so just setting in a drawer still in the box .....don't know if I like it or use the extra 1 1/2 x 5 ?? ...kinda like the extended eye relief of this m8...we will see as the goofy stuf begins with this new toy....better scope mount is first, then trigger.

Yesterday I shot the 38-55 at 40 yards to set the zero on the Redfield peep sight.
I’ve experimented with a barrel mounted FF3 and a Weaver J2.5/post scope in a Williams side mount; they worked - but took away the handiness of the m94.
It was quite windy, so I just shot the 44-40 and 7-30 at 40 yards. Sorry, no pics but they both did well with cast bullets and Unique.
I also tried three different loads for the OP Colt that I just aquired.
I’m happy to report that it’s fixed sights are on for 6:00 hold using 3.5 gr Red Dot with Speer 158 swaged HP.

Perhaps my all time favorite scope. I put one on my 7x57 in 1991 and have never taken it off.

I took the Carcano 7RWH , Santa Barbara 98 358 Win , Savage 275 Rigby , and Dad's 700 25-06' out today.

The Carcano was not a complete failure. I had some 180 HP BT Match Kings , apparently they need that last half inch of twist . Groups did close some in spite of the 45° impacts. The 6.8 case just doesn't have the volume to go any faster . I wish I could some of the old Hornady 154 gr HPBTs for it .

While 18 rounds in a 4" circle at 50 isn't special I haven't shot this build much and have only the time spent on it with the 358 . It looks like the sizing is just a little bit small in the H&I die . I shot 20 to fire form formed 308 for the final trim . The PB 360-238 XCB and 8.5 gr of Unique was pretty tame but even loads that opened the inside the bow floor release we're just a firm push . Having moulds from 95-250 gr and an RB I suppose I could feed it something intended for a 380 ,9mm or 38/357 and load it as such .

The 275 likes the little bit of jump with the 7mm--168 . 8.5 Unique gave me a neat little 1.5" square . The 41&41.3 gr of the old DuPont marked 4350 made neat little 2.5" circles . I did get a little fouling at the muzzle about the last 2.5" . This is a new barrel with only maybe 200 rounds through it so the pores and stuff aren't really filled yet and it's all been cast save 10 rounds.

Dad's 25 did well with the first load behind the 125 gr 260-120 . If I never get a better group it's unlikely that anything coyote or up will go very far . Just 41.0 H4831 from fresh cans (circa 2015) . I don't know how fast they're getting there but it's likely something north of 2200 fps MV . The next step at 41.3 was a dinner plate , a surprise but not an unusual thing in my experience with fast twists.

IMG_3397.jpegIMG_3405.jpegYesterday I took the Ruger American 350 Legend out and shot some ARX 56g bullets over a case full of Enforcer powder.

(Grr pics should be HERE)

Then the Howa 6arc and an 2520 powder ladder under a 85g Speer btsp bullet. Not chronographed. First load lower right and last, top load is upper left corner.

IMG_3411.jpeg

This was third loading and it was best accuracy. I didnt waste fourth and fifth shots on first two groups. They was not gonna get better. :)

AA 2520 is my go-to powder for jacketed 308W (165 grain) loadings, as well as 243W (55 grain) jacketed bullets. Meters like a dream.
Looking thru my powders. What I thought was a Partial 4# can was in-fact a full 8# bottle. This was a gift and I had two 1# bottles on shelf.
SO... Im wanting to use 2520. :)
