Winchester 64A

Been looking at one which is still there as of this afternoon, but has been there quite a while. I have always thought these were kind of the ultimate in classy lever guns (excluding certain variants of Savage 99). Bottom line, I want it, asking price of 875. Not pristine, but pretty good condition.

This does not look like a Pre-64 Winchester too me. I thought the 64 were all older, is the "A" designation mean anything.

That slim profile with the half magazine tube and pistol grip sure does feel good to hold. I believe the internals are all the same as a 94 is that correct?

The 64 was reintroduced in the 1970s for a short while. They are as pretty as a 94 gets in my opinion.
The pre 64 models all have a pin retaining screw on the bottom of the action- makes them easier to spot in the gun racks.

I always liked the half magazine tube on lever rifles. My buddy has an old Marlin in 35 Rem. with a 24" bbl. and half magazine tube that was his father's. No way I could get him to part with that thing, but I have tried. It is an excellent shooter.

I have that same old Marlin, killed my first buck with it. Haven't shot it in years. I need to pull it out and do that.

Sadly, Mossberg discontinued the 464, I wanted them to offer a variant like this, but I guess that won't happen now.

Dad had a Model 64 chambered in 219 Zipper. It was a pretty rifle, but every time you'd shoot it, along about the 3rd shot, the barrel would start making a left or right turn; can't remember which. He sold it back in the 70s I think.

Recently picked up a model 94 NRA centennial for a reasonable price, which is basically a 64A with engraving on the receiver and a stock medallion. Go get it and enjoy it!
