I continue to see these ads on my Facebook feed (Yeah, I know first danger sign). They feature steel AR-500 hanging targets (4" 1/4" discs and 8" 3/8" discs) with ringed-eye J-hooks to hang the discs with. There are angled "forks" with ringed eyes that form legs to support a crossbar; the crossbar and legs consist of 1" metal conduit tubing the buyer gets locally from a hardware store.

The prices are attractive, but I have a feeling some info is being left out--like shipping costs or other surprises. Has anyone here tried these systems, or tried ordering them? I love ringing steel targets while shooting, and would like to get something of this sort. Any experience or info along this line is welcome, and thanks in advance.

I have had excellent transactions with AR500targets dot com, their stands employ locally-sourced 2x4s or tee posts as I recall. Paint is nice, edges are clean, shipping included, pricing reasonable, and material is genuine.

Thank you, Ian--that is what I was seeking. I will give them a look-see, I recall seeing their ads in the past as well. This is the time of year I start getting my ducks in a row for the upcoming shooting and hunting seasons. Between the heat and the rain in the desert, not a good time to go at present.

DANG--that company is 25 miles from where we live. EASY. Thanks again, Ian!

Your die will get mailed tomorrow.

I have a set very similar , it has deeper J's , 2 @4" , 2@6" , 1@8" , 2 ea O< , and 8 J's . I bought it at a Reno show from a guy in CA that came over . It was cheap ! All of the parts including the J are AR 500 . He hasn't been to a Reno show in about 3 years and attempts to find him have been met with empty shelves the last yr or so .

Shipping shouldn't be bad my set easily fit in a mfrb well under weight . His packing wrapped 5 plates in stretch wrap and all of the O< and J's together . You needed only assembly walking out , shipped 1" electric conduit to suit . 3 8' pieces worked best for my buddy Jorge . 4 ea 4' legs and an 8' cross bar . The suggested 6' and 2's is ok but a rifle hit that throws a 6" plate full loop will unseat the legs or roll the stand I think mine was $125 cash and carry . Vs buying just the 5 plates made the hooks and leg adaptors free .

223 FMJ Agulia 55 gr does pock a little under 100 yd and those 2000 fps 250 gr 458s leave a mark . A hit on the J hook does nil damage .

I would recommend that if you don't take your pickup you do take a tubing cutter for the rogue deflection hits if you need to take it apart to box or whatever . PVC would be ok for legs if it's more cost effective but is too flexy for the cross bar . Belled ends or couplings may be needed also for plastic up rights . I used the 2' legs , but used a round cement stake on each end to combat the flop .

All in all I would expect $25 for shipping and another $15-18 for the 1" EMT .

My 12" '1/2" round gong is my primary backstop at 100. It has seen around 3-4,000 hits from 2,200-3,000 fps cast bullets and many hundreds of subsonic bullets. The face is getting pocked pretty badly after all that, the cast bullets being harder than jacketed bullet cores. Time to flip it around and beat on the other side for a while! All things considered, it has held up quite well. The white powder coat that AR500Targets puts on their gongs is very, very tough and highly effective at preventing rust.
