I don't think the Greenhill formula was ever meant to a carved in granite law. I look at it as guide, something to look at and get you in the ballpark.

I am fully aware of its limits. .......painfully. ..
There was this 308 ,if it was under 170 gr it shot fine (jackets) put a 180 in it patterns and sometimes not tight 1s. Amusing because the Hornady 180 RN was the same length as the 3033 150 sp and shorter than the 145 gr Argentine surplus fmj and a whole host of 165 and 168. I suspect it was a victim of aerodynamics at least in part .

I think, more than weight; amount of surface contact with bore, ogive geometry and centroid have greater influence on the bullet's flight.

If it helps anyone I've shot the NOE 247 Whisper in a .30-30, it just happened to be a Savage 219 so feeding wasn't an issue. It fit like a glove and was minute of cowpie-on-the-berm accurate at 100 yards offhand with buck'n'bead sights. 24", 1-in-12 barrel stabilized them just peachy, and stoked with 7 grains of Unique shot to the same 100-yard elevation setting as 170-grain cast at full-tilt loadings. Pretty quiet, too. No, they won't feed in a Marlin 336 and if you have to eject a live one you have to pop it loose from the extractor with a pocket screwdriver and shake it out of the ejection port base first.

Probably would get away with neck sizing for a bit. Lever guns don't have the leverage to chamber a snug round so you may get by with neck sizing a time or two and then would need to F/L.

Gotcha. Thanks Rick

Thanks! I was wondering about using it in a 336. I'd pay shipping to give a handful of that boolit a whirl in mine, also thought it could be interesting in a long throat sks if it casts fat enough. I was reluctant to buy it for a try it as I don't have a blackout.

I just ordered a 230 PB from NOE. Let me get some cast up and you can have them. Might be very interesting in a 336.

RCBS 30-180FN. Works in every single 30 I've tried. Kills well, even at about 900-1K impact velocity it will go through both sides of a 50-60lbs coyote. If you HP it with a Forster tool it looks absolutely scary, but I've never shot anything with it. RCBS moulds always cast well for me too. In my alloy, (old WW), it drops about 190gr and I can duplicate the vaunted 303 Savage factory load with plain old 3031. Love that mould!

Bret, agree 100%. FYI -- NOE now offers that bullet design in gang moulds and HP gang moulds, and it's a beauty!

Hi Guys! ....I have been watching that bullet for some time.

My concern has been the nose size.

Can anyone give me numbers from a cast one and alloy used.

I like to have at least a .301 nose for my o3's.

Thanks ...Dan S.

Cast with an alloy of 3 parts recovered range scrap and 1 part linotype (BHN of about 12) the NOE HP nose runs .301" to as much as about .3013". The nose on the NOE solid runs right at .301".

Glen ..thank you.
Those numbers may just work for me.

NOE moulds do generally run large, but IMO not as large as they use to.

I run an alloy that is about 50/50 + tin, gives me a 15 BHN.

The reason I do this is because I get free pewter and lead, leaves only lino to buy.

The end cost to me is about $1.00 per #.

Creeker...thank you ,that was my fear with this design.
A .300 nose just doesn't work for me.
But as Glen says the NOE's do run slightly larger with alloys harder then straight COWW's.

Just measured a few of mine- .301+ perpendicular to the halve line, .302+ near the lines. But, mics vary and so do users. I'll try to remember to take my Starret tenths reading mic out tomorrow.
